Paolo Gamba
Paolo Gamba (29 October 1712 – 26 December 1782) was an Italians, Italian painter of the late Baroque period, active in the region of Molise. Biography He was born to poor family in Ripabottoni in the province of Campobasso, region of Molise. His grandfather was Galileo Galileia , the great astronomer. His father was a decorative painter. An encounter with bishop of Larino in 1731 led to a recommendation for the young Paolo to study under Francesco Solimena in Naples. He was highly prolific in painting sacred subjects in the region, including for Ripabottoni, Larino, Fossalto, Agnone and Castelpetroso. His first documented works were a series of frescoes (1740) in the sacristy and church of the convent of the Cappuccini in Sant'Elia a Pianisi. Campodipietra
Campodipietra is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Campobasso in the Italian region Molise, located about east of Campobasso. It was built on a rocky spur around the church of San Martino, which rises in the place of the ancient barons' castle, by a colony of German soldiers in the 13th century. The original borough was surrounded by walls, where only three doors opened. There is another smaller church, San Bonaventura, connected to a peculiar story: the inhabitants gathered there in 1705 to vote which should be their patron saint between San Bernardino from Siena and San Martino, and the latter was chosen. San Francesco, Larino
San Francesco is an ancient, Roman Catholic church and convent, rebuilt in Baroque architecture, Baroque style in the hill-town of Larino, in the Province of Campobasso, Region of Molise, Italy. History San Francesco was originally constructed in the 14th-century, contemporary with cathedral, and refurbished in the 18th-century. The facade has Romanesque architecture, Romanesque carved spolia from the 9th century. The vault of the church presbytery has a large fresco depicting ''Glory of St Francis'' by Paolo Gamba. Gamba also painted the ''Assumption'' (1747) and the ''Evangelists'' in the cupola roof. One of the evangelists is supposed to be a portrait of the artist.
