Pantages Tower
Pantages Tower is a condominium and boutique hotel at 200-210 Victoria Street in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The building is located near the Ed Mirvish Theatre at 244 Victoria Street, which opened in 1920 as the Pantages Theater. The hotel is known as the Pantages Hotel, and its main entrance is situated at 200 Victoria Street. The condo units are in 210 Victoria. At 139.6 metres and 45 floors, the glass tower was completed in 2003. The Postmodern tower was designed by Moshe Safdie and Core Architects Inc for developers Dundee Corp and Intracorp. History The tower takes its name from Greek-born vaudeville impresario Alexander Pantages. Central Technical School (CTS or Central Tech) is a Canadian composite high school in Toronto, Ontario. The school is run by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB); before 1998, it was run by the Toronto Board of Education (TBE). The Live Entertainment Corporation of Canada, better known as Livent, was a theatre production company based in Toronto, Ontario. Founded in 1989 by former Cineplex Odeon executives Garth Drabinsky and Myron Gottlieb, the company initially found success with its production of ''The Phantom of the Opera'' at its Pantages Theatre in Toronto. In 1993, they brought '' Kiss of the Spider Woman'' to Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical. Alexander Pantages
Alexander Pantages (Περικλῆς Ἀλέξανδρος Πανταζής , ''Periklis Alexandros Padazis''; 1867 – February 17, 1936) was a Greek American vaudeville impresario and early motion picture producer. He created a large and powerful circuit of theatres across the western United States and Canada. At the height of his empire, he owned or operated 84 theatres across the United States and Canada. In 1929, he was accused of raping a 17-year-old dancer named Eunice Alice Pringle; the negative publicity led to the selling of his operations and he ceased to be a force in exhibition or vaudeville ever again. He is largely forgotten today in historical accounts of the early development of motion pictures. He died in 1936 worth only a fraction of his previous net worth.
