Palle Ravn
Palle Ravn (13 December 1928 – 20 May 2012) was a Danish chess player, Danish Chess Championship winner (1957). Biography In the end of 1950s Palle Ravn was one of Danish leading young chess players. In 1955, he shared 1st place with future grandmaster Bent Larsen in Copenhagen City Chess Championship. In 1957, in Odense Palle Ravn won Danish Chess Championship. Chess
Chess is a board game for two players, called White and Black, each controlling an army of chess pieces in their color, with the objective to checkmate the opponent's king. Danish Chess Championship
The Danish Chess Championship was organised by the Danish Chess Union ( DSU) and first held in 1910. A masterclass was first introduced in 1915. But it is only from 1922 that the title of Danish chess champion was introduced, this was the first year also players from Copenhagen joined. History In 1949 Poul Hage and Bjørn Nielsen were equal, but Nielsen died before the play-off. In 1950 Hage finished equal with Jens Enevoldsen, but this time the winner was decided by toss up. The 1997 Championship was a ten-player single round-robin tournament held in Esbjerg from 22–30 March. The field included six Grandmasters, and the tournament average Elo rating was 2487 making it FIDE category 10. Lars Bo Hansen won with 6.0/9, and was the only player to not lose a game. Tied for second at 5.5 were Curt Hansen, Bent Larsen, and Peter Heine Nielsen. Bent Larsen
Jørgen Bent Larsen (4 March 1935 – 9 September 2010) was a Danish chess grandmaster and author. Known for his imaginative and unorthodox style of play, he was the second strongest non-Soviet player, behind Bobby Fischer, for much of the 1960s and 1970s. He is considered to be the strongest player born in Denmark and the strongest from Scandinavia until the emergence of Magnus Carlsen. Larsen was a six-time Danish Champion and a Candidate for the World Chess Championship on four occasions, reaching the semifinal three times. He had multiple wins over all seven World Champions who held the title from 1948 to 1985: Mikhail Botvinnik, Vasily Smyslov, Mikhail Tal, Tigran Petrosian, Boris Spassky, Bobby Fischer, and Anatoly Karpov, but lifetime negative scores against them. From the early 1970s onward he divided his year between Las Palmas and Buenos Aires, with his Argentinian-born wife. He suffered from diabetes, and died in 2010 from a cerebral haemorrhage. The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams representing nations of the world compete. FIDE organises the tournament and selects the host nation. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, FIDE held an Online Chess Olympiad in 2020 and 2021, with a rapid time control that affected players' online ratings. The use of the name "Chess Olympiad" for FIDE's team championship is of historical origin and implies no connection with the Olympic Games. Birth of the Olympiad The first Olympiad was unofficial.
