PLA Naval University of Engineering (; abbreviated NUEPLA and colloquially known by the Chinese as Haǐgōngdà 海工大), is a national key university administered by the People's Liberation Army Navy. PLA Naval University of Engineering is located in Wuhan, Hubei, China. As of fall 2015, the university has 2 campuses, consists of 5 colleges and 7 departments, with 20 specialties for undergraduates. History PLA Naval University of Engineering was founded in May 1949, it was initially called "Andong Naval Academy". It was renamed "Dalian Naval Academy" in November 1949 and "PLA Second Naval Academy" in December 1950. In 1975, PLA Second Naval Academy was changed to PLA Naval Academy of Engineering. People's Liberation Army Navy
The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN; ), also known as the People's Navy, Chinese Navy, or PLA Navy, is the maritime service branch of the People's Liberation Army. The PLAN traces its lineage to naval units fighting during the Chinese Civil War and was established on 23 April 1949. Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, the Soviet Union provided assistance to the PLAN in the form of naval advisers and export of equipment and technology. Until the late 1980s, the PLAN was largely a riverine and littoral force (brown-water navy). In the 1990s, following the fall of the Soviet Union and a shift towards a more forward-oriented foreign and security policy, the leaders of the Chinese military were freed from worrying overland border disputes. Wuhan (, ; ; ) is the capital of Hubei, Hubei Province in the China, People's Republic of China. Hubei (; ; alternately Hupeh) is a landlocked province of the People's Republic of China, and is part of the Central China region. The name of the province means "north of the lake", referring to its position north of Dongting Lake. National Key Universities
National Key Universities () previously referred to universities recognized as prestigious and which received a high level of support from the central government of the People's Republic of China. The term is no longer in official use by 1990s. The term "zhòngdiǎn" 重点, translated here as "key," in this phrase can also be translated as "major," "priority," or "focal." The term "National Key Universities" then became defunct, and these schools are now normally referred to as " Double First Class Universities“, based on the China state Double First Class University Plan. Chinese Academy Of Engineering
The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE, ) is the national academy of the People's Republic of China for engineering. It was established in 1994 and is an institution of the State Council of China. The CAE and the Chinese Academy of Sciences are often referred to together as the "Two Academies". Its current president is Li Xiaohong. ''Liaoning'' (16; ) is a Chinese Type 001 aircraft carrier. Ma Weiming
Ma Weiming (; born 6 April 1960) is a Chinese electrical engineer. He is a professor of the PLA Naval University of Engineering. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and holds the military rank of rear admiral. He led the development of the electromagnetic catapult system for the Type 003 aircraft carrier and the development of electromagnetic railguns. In 2017, he was awarded the Order of August First, the highest honour of the People's Liberation Army. Biography Ma was born in April 1960 in Yangzhong, Jiangsu, China. He graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of PLA Naval University of Engineering in Wuhan with a BS degree in 1982 and an MS degree in 1987.
