Olivier Edmond
Olivier Edmond (born 29 January 1970) is a French professional golfer. Edmond was born in Paris. As an amateur, Edmond represented France in the Eisenhower Trophy. He won the 1990 French Amateur Championship and the Brabazon Trophy (tie with Gary Evans). He turned professional later that year. His brother, Pascal is also a professional golfer. After several seasons on the second tier Challenge Tour, Edmond won a European Tour card at his fifth attempt at qualifying school in 1997. He carried his good form into his début season, and was named the European Tour's Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year in 1998. In 1999, he was successfully treated for testicular cancer but after a moderately successful return to the tour in 2000, including a joint 7th-place finish at the Volvo PGA Championship, wasn't able to return to his previous form and his European Tour career came to an end after the 2003 season. The 1998 Alfred Dunhill Cup was the 14th Alfred Dunhill Cup. It was a team tournament featuring 16 countries, each represented by three players. The Cup was played 8–11 October at the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. The sponsor was the Alfred Dunhill company. The South African team of Ernie Els, David Frost, and Retief Goosen beat the Spanish team of Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Santiago Luna, and José María Olazábal in the final. It was the second win for South Africa, with the same team having won in 1997. Format The Cup was a match play event played over four days. The teams were divided into four four-team groups. Alfred Dunhill Cup
The Alfred Dunhill Cup was a team golf tournament which ran from 1985 to 2000, sponsored by Alfred Dunhill Ltd. It was for three-man teams of professional golfers, one team representing each country, and was promoted as the "World Team Championship". It was a "special approved event" on the European Tour, which means that it was supported by the Tour, but the prize money did not count towards the Tour's Order of Merit. The host course was the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. The stature of the members of the American team was variable as the Dunhill Cup clashed with a PGA Tour event, though the fact that it was played at "The Home of Golf" helped to attract some star names. 1990 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1990 Eisenhower Trophy took place 25 to 28 October at the Christchurch Golf Club near Christchurch, New Zealand. It was the 17th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 33 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. Sweden won the Eisenhower Trophy for the first time, finishing 13 strokes ahead of the joint silver medalists, New Zealand and United States with Canada, France and Japan tied for fourth place. Mathias Grönberg had the lowest individual score, 2-under-par 286, six strokes better than fellow-Swede Gabriel Hjertstedt. Teams 33 teams contested the event. St Andrews Trophy
The St Andrews Trophy is a biennial men's team golf tournament contested between teams of amateur golfers representing Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. It takes its name from St Andrews in Scotland. It was first played in 1956 and takes place in even-numbered years; Great Britain & Ireland plays in the United States in the Walker Cup in odd-numbered years. It is staged alternately in Great Britain & Ireland and on the Continent, and is organised by The R&A (an offshoot of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) and the European Golf Association. The 1989 European Amateur Team Championship took place 28 June – 2 July at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, Wales, United Kingdom. It was the 16th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was founded in 1891. In 1895, the course, designed by Ramsey Hunter, was located close to Pink Bay Beach on the Glamorgan Coast between Cardiff and Swansea in Wales. It had previously hosted The Amateur Championship on five occasions, including in 1988. The European Amateur Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for men organised by the European Golf Association which was introduced in 1959. The championship was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012).
