''O Jardineiro Espanhol'' is a 1967 Brazilian telenovela that is based on A. J. Cronin's 1950 novel ''The Spanish Gardener (novel), The Spanish Gardener''. The series was written by Tatiana Belinky and directed by Fabio Sabag. It starred Ednei Giovenazzi as Nicholas, and Osmano Cardoso as the gardener. Other actors included Ana Rosa, João José Pompeo, Marcus Toledo, and Paulo Villaça. Rede Tupi (; in English, Tupi Network) was a Brazilian television network free-to-air. Its parent broadcaster, located in the city of São Paulo, was the first TV station to operate in the country, being inaugurated on 18 September 1950 by journalist Assis Chateaubriand. He belonged to Diários Associados, one of the largest media conglomerates of the 20th century, owner of several newspapers, magazines, and radio. The channel was formed in the 1970s, with members as co-brothers of the Diários Associados and affiliates. The generating stations were TV Tupi São Paulo and TV Tupi Rio de Janeiro. A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. The significant difference is their series run length; telenovelas tell one self-contained story, typically within the span of a year or less whereas soap operas tend to have intertwined storylines told during indefinite, continuing runs. Tatiana Belinky
Tatiana Belinky (18 March 1919 – 15 June 2013) was a Russian-born Brazilian children literature, children's writer. She wrote over 250 books for children. Biography Born in Petrograd, Belinky came to Brazil with her family when she was ten years old, fleeing from the civil wars in the then Soviet Union. At eighteen, after completing a preparatory course on Mackenzie University, she began working as bilingual secretary in Portuguese and English. At twenty she enrolled at the Philosophy course of Faculdade São Bento, but she abandoned it then when she married the doctor and educator Júlio Gouveia in 1940. The couple had two sons. In 1948, Belinky begins to work adapting translating and creating children's plays for São Paulo city government in partnership with her husband. In 1952 they direct the play "The Three Bears" at the request of TV Tupi, which achieves great success. The Spanish Gardener (film)
''The Spanish Gardener'' is a 1956 VistaVision and Technicolor film based on the 1950 eponymous novel by A. J. Cronin. The film, which stars Dirk Bogarde and Jon Whiteley, was directed by Philip Leacock. The adaptation was filmed both at Pinewood Studios near London and in Palamós nearby Mas Juny estate, as well as in S'Agaro, on the Costa Brava, Catalonia. There were also two other adaptations of the story for Brazilian television: ''Nicholas'' (1958) and ''O Jardineiro Espanhol'' (1967). The film was entered into the 7th Berlin International Film Festival. The ending of the film differs from that of the book.
