Oyam, Uganda
Oyam is a town in the Northern Region of Uganda. It is the primary municipal, administrative, and commercial centre of Oyam District. Location Oyam is bordered by Anyeke to the north, Loro to the east, Adiegi to the south, Aber to the southwest, and Pamwa to the northwest. The town is approximately , by road, west of Lira, the largest city in Lango sub-region. The coordinates of the town are 2°14'06.0"N, 32°23'06.0"E (Latitude:2.2350; Longitude:32.3850). Population The 2002 national population census estimated the town population at 10,600. In 2010, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) estimated the population at 14,000. Flag Of Uganda
The flag of Uganda ( Ugandan Languages: ''Bendera ya Uganda'') was adopted on 9 October 1962, the date that Uganda became independent from the British Empire. It consists of six equal horizontal bands of black (top), yellow, red, black, yellow, and red (bottom); a white disc is superimposed at the centre and depicts the national symbol, a grey crowned crane, facing the hoist's side. During the colonial era the British used a British Blue ensign defaced with the colonial badge, as prescribed in 1865 regulations. Murchison Falls National Park
Murchison Falls National Park (MFNP) is a national park in Uganda and managed by the Ugandan Wildlife Authority. It is in north-western Uganda, spreading inland from the shores of Lake Albert (Africa), Lake Albert, around the Victoria Nile, up to the Karuma Falls. Together with the adjacent Bugungu Wildlife Reserve and the Karuma Wildlife Reserve, the park forms the Murchison Falls Conservation Area (MFCA). As of 2022, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline being built includes the construction of 10 oil well pads, a feeder pipeline, and a refinery in and around the Murchison Falls national park. Langi People
The Lango are a Nilo-Hamitic ethnic group of the Ateker peoples. They live in north-central Uganda, in a region that covers the area formerly known as the Lango District until 1974, when it was split into the districts of Apac and Lira, and subsequently into several additional districts. The current Lango Region now includes the districts of Amolatar, Alebtong, Apac, Dokolo, Kole, Lira, Oyam, Otuke, and Kwania. The total population of the Lango District is around 1,500,000. The Lango speak in “ LebLango”, a mixture of Ateker peoples dialects and broken Luo languages. Early history The Lango oral tradition states that they were part of the "Lango race" during the migration period. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics ("UBOS") is an agency of the Ugandan government. Formed by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998, the agency is mandated to "coordinate, monitor and supervise Uganda's National Statistical System". Location The headquarters of UBOS are located in Statistics House, at Plot 9 Colville Street on Nakasero Hill, in Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. Lira is a city in the Northern Region, Uganda, Northern Region of Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative, and commercial centre of Lira District. History Lira was one of the last towns in Uganda held by loyalists of Idi Amin during the Uganda–Tanzania War (1978–1979). A force consisting of the Tanzania People's Defence Force's 201st Brigade and the Uganda National Liberation Front's Kikosi Maalum attacked Lira on 15 May 1979, ousting the Amin loyalists after a Battle of Lira, short battle.
