Oxfordshire RFU County Cup
The Oxfordshire RFU County Cup is an annual rugby union knock-out club competition organised by the Oxfordshire Rugby Football Union. It was first introduced during the 1970–71 season, with the inaugural winners being Oxford. It is the most important rugby union cup competition in Oxfordshire, ahead of the Oxfordshire RFU County Shield. The County Cup is open to club sides based in Oxfordshire playing in tier 6 (South West 1 East) and tier 7 (Southern Counties North) of the English rugby union system, 2nd teams of higher ranked clubs in the county (tiers 3–4), as well as invitee sides from outside of the league structure (e.g. university representative sides). The current format is a knock-out competition with a preliminary round, first round, semi-finals and a final played at Iffley Road in Oxford in March–April. Banbury is a historic market town on the River Cherwell in Oxfordshire, South East England. It had a population of 54,335 at the 2021 Census. Oxford Harlequins (Oxford Quins) Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in Oxford, England. In the 2021-22 season the men's 1st XV gained promotion to a new league in the England Rugby Club Championship, Regional 1 South Central, a new nomenclature for National 3 / level five of the English rugby union system. As of Sept 2022, the women's 1st XV compete in National Challenge 1 South East, level 4 of the England Rugby Women's Club Championship. The men's 2nd XV compete in Counties 2 Tribute Berks/Bucks & Oxon North, level 8 of the RFU rugby pyramid. Witney is a market town on the River Windrush in West Oxfordshire in the county of Oxfordshire, England. It is west of Oxford. The place-name "Witney" is derived from the Old English for "Witta's island". The earliest known record of it is as ''Wyttannige'' in a Saxon charter of 969. The Domesday Book of 1086 records it as ''Witenie''. Notable buildings The Church of England parish church of St Mary the Virgin was originally Norman. The north porch and north aisle were added in this style late in the 12th century, and survived a major rebuilding in about 1243. Bicester Rugby Union Football Club is an English rugby union club situated in Bicester, 10 miles North of Oxford. The club provides rugby for children from the age of 4 (Under 5s, or School Reception Year) up to the Under 18 (Colts), two girls teams, and a senior section which includes the Women's team (Vixens), Bicester Men's 2nd XV, and 1st XV. Chinnor R
Chinnor is a large village and civil parish in South Oxfordshire about southeast of Thame, close to the border with Buckinghamshire. The village is a spring line settlement on the Icknield Way below the Chiltern escarpment. Since 1932 the civil parish has included the village of Emmington. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 5,924. Pre-history The Icknield Way is a pre-Roman road. The site of an Iron Age settlement from perhaps the 4th century BC has been excavated on the Chiltern ridge in the southern part of the parish. Traces of Romano-British occupation have been found both on the same high ground and below on Icknield Way. A twin barrow on Icknield Way has been found to contain the weapons of a Saxon warrior that have been dated to the 6th century. The Oxford University Rugby Football Club (Oxford University RFC or OURFC) is the rugby union club of the University of Oxford. The club contests The Varsity Match every year against Cambridge University at Twickenham. History Men's team The University of Oxford RFC was founded in 1869, fifteen months before the creation of the Rugby Football Union. The first Varsity Match was played in February 1872 in Oxford at 'The Parks', the following year the return game was played in Cambridge on Parker's Piece. Henley Hawks
Henley Hawks is a rugby union club based in Henley-on-Thames and is one of the leading rugby clubs in the Thames Valley. The first team play in the fourth tier of the English league system; National League 2 East. History Henley RFC was founded in August 1930 as Old Henleiensians (old boys of Henley Grammar School). After a break during the war years the club was re-founded in 1954 and changed its name to Henley RFC in 1963. It has been based at Dry Leas since then.
