Orange Alternative
The Orange Alternative (Polish language, Polish: ''Pomarańczowa Alternatywa'') is a Polish far-left anti-communist underground movement, started in Wrocław, a city in south-west Poland and led by Waldemar Fydrych (sometimes misspelled as Frydrych), commonly known as ''Major (Commander of Festung Breslau)'' in the 1980s. Its main purpose was to offer a wider group of citizens an alternative way of opposition against the authoritarian regime by means of a peaceful protest that used absurd and nonsensical elements. By doing this, members of the Orange Alternative could not be arrested by the police for opposition to the regime without the authorities becoming a laughing stock. The Orange Alternative has been viewed as part of the broader Solidarity (Polish trade union), Solidarity movement. Łódź
Łódź, also rendered in English as Lodz, is a city in central Poland and a former industrial centre. It is the capital of Łódź Voivodeship, and is located approximately south-west of Warsaw. Wiesław Cupała
Wiesław Cupała (aliases: "Rotmistrz (Rittmeister)"; born 27 August 1956) is a Polish artist, writer, mathematician, editor of the website of the Wolność i Pokój (Freedom and Peace) movement, and one of the leaders of the Orange Alternative. Career In 1981, Cupała finished the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of the University of Wrocław. In 1985, he defended his thesis at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrocław. From 1987 until 1994, he worked there as a lecturer. From 1994 until 2003, he worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Econometry of the University of Zielona Góra. Pora! ( uk, Пора!, Russian: Пора!), meaning “''It's time!”'' in both Ukrainian and Russian, is a civic youth organization (Black Pora!) and political party in Ukraine ( Yellow Pora!) espousing nonviolent resistance and advocating increased national democracy. Authoritarianism is a political system characterized by the rejection of political plurality, the use of strong central power to preserve the political '' status quo'', and reductions in the rule of law, separation of powers, and democratic voting.
