Operation Identify Me
Operation Identify Me was launched on 10 May 2023 by Interpol to solve cold cases across Western Europe to identify 22 unidentified women who were found deceased in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany between 1976 and 2019. Most of the women were murdered, and have never been identified. A public appeal was made for information surrounding the unidentified women. Interpol alongside Dutch, German, and Belgian police forces released forensic facial reconstructions as well as other information used in the investigations. It is believed some of the murdered women may be from parts of Eastern Europe. Cases The murder cases span five decades. The bodies were discovered between October 1976 and August 2019. Their average ages range from 15 to 30. Most of the women suffered violent deaths. Spandauer Vorstadt ("Spandauer suburb", formerly also called Spandauer Quarter or Spandauer Viertel) is a historic district in what is now the Mitte district of Berlin. Amstelveen () is a municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands with a population of 92.353 as of 2022. It is a suburban part of the Amsterdam metropolitan area. Retranchement
Retranchement is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located on the Belgian border, about 9 km northwest of Oostburg, in the municipality of Sluis. History The village was first mentioned in 1627 as "Een groot en seer sterck Retrenchement". Retrenchement is a type of sconce. The village is named after Retranchement Cadsandria which was built around 1622 to protect against the Spanish troops, and consists of a wall with bastions with a sconce on either side. The fortification was built by Maurice, Prince of Orange to control the Zwin and protect the recently conquered harbour of the Sluis. Prinsengracht
The Prinsengracht is a -long canal that runs parallel to the Keizersgracht in the center of Amsterdam. The canal, named after the Prince of Orange, is the fourth of the four main canals belonging to the canal belt. History Construction started in 1612 on the initiative of Mayor Frans Hendricksz. Egelantiersgracht
The Egelantiersgracht in Amsterdam is a canal in the Jordaan neighbourhood in the Amsterdam-Centrum borough. The canal lies between the Prinsengracht and the Lijnbaansgracht. History The Jordaan, between the outer canal and the town wall, was part of a major urban development at the start of the 17th century. The canals and streets were not laid out on a new plan, but were enlargements of the existing polder ditches and pathways. In the Jordaan many canals and streets are named after flowers. This canal is named for an eglantine rose (''Rosa rubiginosa''). During construction of the canal belt, a pattern was followed that curved around the old city center in a semicircle. Lauriergracht
The Lauriergracht (; literally "Laurel Canal") is one of the canals of Amsterdam, located in the Jordaan, west of the Grachtengordel. History and inhabitants It was painted and photographed by George Hendrik Breitner who set up a studio on the canal, at number 8, in 1893 and stayed there until 1898. His ''De Lauriergracht bij de Tweede Laurierdwarsstraat'' (painted in 1917–1918) is in the Rijksmuseum. Prints of his paintings of Lauriergracht 1-15 are in the Stedelijk Museum.
