Build-on-demand or manufacturing on demand (MOD) refers to a manufacturing process where goods are produced only when or as they are required. This allows scalability and adjustable assemblies depending on the current needs of the part requestor or client. Manufacturing on demand has the potential to markedly affect the manufacturing industry by shortening lead times and reducing costs. Manufacturing previously relied on Request for quotation, Request for quotes (RfQs) that were not digitally obtainable. Examples ;Audio and video discs: Recordable discs with audio and/or video content can be published from companies to customers via manufacture on demand. This differs from traditional releases as the discs are only produced on demand, rather than being stored in a warehouse, eliminating inventory. Astro On Demand (Simplified as Astro AOD) is a Cantonese-language drama TV channel service co-established by TVB and Astro. It features the latest TVB drama series and broadcasts the same time as the origin channel. The channel was officially launched on 16 July 2007. Astro On Demand plays spontaneously as Hong Kong does on premiering drama series. However, not all drama series are subject to the rules above. Programming options like subtitles are available in Chinese and Malay and in recent years English subtitles and Mandarin audio option are added. Lean manufacturing is a production method aimed primarily at reducing times within the production system as well as response times from suppliers and to customers. It is closely related to another concept called just-in-time manufacturing (JIT manufacturing in short). Just-in-time manufacturing tries to match production to demand by only supplying goods which have been ordered and focuses on efficiency, productivity (with a commitment to continuous improvement) and reduction of "wastes" for the producer and supplier of goods.
