Olen Hendrix
Olen Hendrix (July 12, 1909 – August 5, 1998) was a businessman, banker, and state legislator in Arkansas. He served in the Arkansas Senate from 1959–1982. He served as President of the Arkansas Senate in 1971. He was born in Pike County, Arkansas. He was one of two owners of Magnolia Manor in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He was educated up to the 8th grade. He served on the Harding University Board of Trustees. He received an honorary degree from the university. A building at the university is named for him. Pike County, Arkansas
Pike County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,291. The county seat is Murfreesboro. Pike County is Arkansas's 25th county, formed on November 1, 1833, and named for Lieutenant Zebulon Pike, the explorer who discovered Pikes Peak. It is an alcohol prohibition or dry county. The current judge is Dewight Mack. History The first known residents of the area now considered Pike County were Native Americans. The Quapaw tribe was prominent in the area, as well as the Kadohadacho, and Cahinnio tribes. Expeditions led by Hernando de Soto and Sieur de La Salle passed through the area. Magnolia Manor (Arkadelphia, Arkansas)
Magnolia Manor is a historic house on Apple Blossom Drive in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The two story wood-frame house was built in 1854–57, and is a fine local example of Greek Revival and some Italianate styling. The house features corner pilasters, a broad eave with brackets, and a main entry on its eastern facade sheltered by a single-story porch with deck above. A secondary entry on the south side is similarly styled. The house was built by a South Carolina plantation owner, and has been owned by two state senators, Fletcher McElhannon and Olen Hendrix. The manor's lands once extended all the way to Arkansas Highway 51. Arkadelphia is a city in Clark County, Arkansas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,714. The city is the county seat of Clark County. Antoine is a town in Pike County, Arkansas, United States, along the Antoine River. The population was 117 according to the 2010 census. Geography Antoine is located at (34.036183, -93.421787). It is located on hills immediately west of the Antoine River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.3 km (0.5 mi), all land. Elevation is above sea level. History The town of Antoine began as a stopping point on the old Southwest Trail to Texas in the early 19th century. It was named for a French trapper who was found dead at his camp along the road (the site of the present town cemetery). The only identification found on the man was his first name, "Antoine".
