Oil Springs (also Medina) is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. It lies along Route 40 west of the city of Paintsville, the county seat of Johnson County. It has a post office with the ZIP code 41238. History Oil Springs takes its name from the natural oil springs discovered in Johnson County. The springs once fed a popular health resort. The first post office was established on January 29, 1868, with Hamilton Litteral as postmaster. It was also known as Medina for a short time after the Medina Seminary, which was a boarding school that was established there in the 1870s by John Riggs Long. Johnson Central High School is a public secondary school located at 257 North Mayo Trail on the northwest side of Paintsville, Kentucky, United States. Paintsville () is a home rule-class city along Paint Creek in Johnson County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is the seat of its county. The population was 3,459 during the 2010 U.S. Census. History A Paint Lick Station was referred to in military dispatches as early as 1780. The site was named for Indian art painted on the debarked trees near a local salt lick when the first white settlers arrived and was originally part of a tract belonging to George Lewis. ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) are statistical entities developed by the United States Census Bureau for tabulating summary statistics.
