Johnson Central High School
Johnson Central High School is a public secondary school located at 257 North Mayo Trail on the northwest side of Paintsville, Kentucky, United States. The school serves as the Johnson County School District's consolidated high school. As of the 2015–16 school year, enrollment was 1,048 in grades 9–12. The school was featured as a '' U.S. News & World Report'' America's Top High School, maintaining the Bronze Award since 2007. History During the early 1960s, the school board began to consider the idea of a consolidated high school in Johnson County. School administrators began exploring the subject with students, teachers, and parents. In 1965, the subject was voted upon and it was decided to create a tax levy for the construction of a new high school. Paintsville
Paintsville () is a home rule-class city along Paint Creek in Johnson County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is the seat of its county. The population was 3,459 during the 2010 U.S. Census. History A Paint Lick Station was referred to in military dispatches as early as 1780. The site was named for Indian art painted on the debarked trees near a local salt lick when the first white settlers arrived and was originally part of a tract belonging to George Lewis. Governor's Cup is an academic tournament within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Participation Governor's Cup involves approximately 20,000 students. Willie Blair
William Allen Blair (born December 18, 1965) is an American former right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball and current pitching coach for the West Michigan Whitecaps. Playing career Blair played baseball for Morehead State University before the Toronto Blue Jays drafted him in the 11th round of the 1986 amateur draft. He spent four seasons in the Blue Jays minor league system, playing for the St. Catharines Blue Jays (1986), the Dunedin Blue Jays (1987–1988), the Knoxville Smokies (1988), and the Syracuse Chiefs (1989). Blair made his major league debut with the Blue Jays on April 11, 1990, and spent the season with the major league squad. He was traded in the offseason to the Cleveland Indians for Alex Sanchez, and played in 11 games for the Indians that year. Chris Stapleton
Christopher Alvin Stapleton (born April 15, 1978) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky, and grew up in Staffordsville, Kentucky. In 2001, Stapleton moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue an engineering degree from Vanderbilt University but dropped out to pursue his career in music. Kentucky Apple Festival
The Kentucky Apple Festival is an annual festival held in Paintsville, Kentucky during the first Friday and Saturday in October. The festival was originally created in 1962 as a way to provide a market for the county's apple production. During 2020 & 2021 the Kentucky Apple Festival was canceled due to COVID-19. During 2021 the city held the Paintsville Autumn Fest. In 2022 the Kentucky Apple Festival returned and continue their time honored tradition. It was guided by Elmon Davis, an officer at Citizens National Bank and apple orchard owner from Flat Gap. Paintsville High School is a secondary-level school located in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky and is part of the Paintsville Independent School District. Its student enrollment as of 2015–16 school year was 224 in grades 7 through 12. The average student to teacher ratio in classes at Paintsville High School is 14:1. History The Paintsville Independent School system was organized in 1889 originally as the Paintsville Free Graded School. In 1892, the first building of Paintsville High School was built.
