Odisha (English: , ), formerly Orissa ( the official name until 2011), is an Indian state located in Eastern India. It is the 8th largest state by area, and the 11th largest by population. Masako Ono
is a Japanese Odissi dancer. She has lived in India since 1996. Ono was selected as one of the 100 most respected and outstanding Japanese in the world in their respective fields by the Japanese issue of ''Newsweek'' in 2008 and was featured in a documentary series, ''First Japanese''. Biography Ono started dancing at the age of 4 under the instructor Masako Yokoi, the only Japanese modern dance graduate from the Martha Graham Dance School in the United States. She also trained in western classical ballet at the Matsuyama Ballet in Tokyo, and studied jazz dance and hip hop at the K-Broadway Dance Center, Tokyo. Dutee Chand
Dutee Chand (born 3 February 1996) is an Indian professional sprinter and current national champion in the women's 100 metres event. She is the first Indian to win a gold medal in 100m race in a global competition. She is the third Indian woman to ever qualify for the Women's 100 metres event at the Summer Olympic Games. However, in the 2016 Summer Olympics, her 11.69 s in the preliminary round did not qualify her for the next round. In 2018, Chand clinched silver in women's 100m at the Jakarta Asian Games. It was India's first medal in this event since 1998. In 2019, she became the first Indian sprinter to win gold at the Universiade, clocking 11.32 seconds in the 100 m race. Sisir Mishra is an Indian film director and screenwriter best known for directing Hindi and Odia language films including '' Bheegi Palkein'', ''Samay Ki Dhara'', ''Billoo Baadshaah'', ''TADA'' and ''Aseema''. Ramakanta Rath (born 13 December 1934) is one of the most renowned modernist poets in the Odia literature. Heavily influenced by the poets such as T. S. Eliot and Ezra Pound, Rath experimented greatly with form and style. Prashanta Nanda (born 2 May 1947) is an Indian director, actor and politician from the state of Odisha. Chaturbhuj Meher
Chaturbhuj Meher is an Indian weaver, considered by many as one of the master weavers of the Tie-dye handloom tradition of Odisha. Born on 13 October 1935 at Sonepur in Odisha, he had formal education only up to school level but learned the traditional weaving craft to join ''Weavers' Service Centre'' as a Weaver. ''Vayan Vihar'', a handloom factory and ''Handloom Research and Training Center'', a research institute in Sonepur have been founded by him and he is known to have trained over 10,000 craftsmen. Pratibha Satpathy (born: 27 November 1945) is a poet of Odia literature. She has been recognised as one of the leading poets of the country and has been honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Award. Shiv Sunder Das (born 5 November 1977) is an Indian cricketer and 3rd player from Odisha to represent India. He is a right-handed opening batsman. In first-class cricket he played for Odisha. Das was selected in 2000 for the first intake of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He proceeded to make his Test debut later that year.
