O Páramo
O Páramo () is a municipality in the Spanish province of Lugo, situated in Galicia. It has a population of 1632 persons (1.823 in 2006, 1.858 in 2005, 1.887 in 2004, 1.873 in 2003) and an area of 74.92 km2. The Alcalde is Gumersindo Rodriguez Liz. Etymology The name ''Paramo'' comes from the Latinized ''Paramiensis''. the reference to this name is made on a manuscript dating to 1078. This name, however, was only episcopal. History The first reference made to Paramo is in the division of the eleven counties and three parishes into which Lugo was divided into at a council lasting from 569 to 572. A slight discussion is made about this council in Xoan Pallares e Gaioso's (1614-1698) book "Argos Divina, Nuestra Señora de los ojos grandes" (Divine Argos, Our lady with the large eyes), which says: "During the Council of Lugo, as said in the archives of the Church, under the reign of Teodomiro, the limits of each county were decided." Lugo (, ; la, Lucus Augusti) is a city in northwestern Spain in the autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous community of Galicia (Spain), Galicia. Alcalde (; ) is the traditional Spanish municipal magistrate, who had both judicial and administrative functions. Manuel Rodriguez Lopez
Manuel Oreste Rodríguez López (11 December 1934, in Paradela, Lugo, Paradela, Lugo, Spain – 13 February 1990 Lugo) was a Galician poet and writer. Biography Manuel Rodriguez Lopez was born in 1934 in a hamlet in the region of Paradela, Lugo, Paradela. When he was six years old, he moved to Barcelona, and in 1987, he returned to Lugo. He studied Philosophy and Humanities at the Diocesan Seminary of Barcelona from 1946 to 1952. He then studied accounting and labour legislation. He worked as the head of the department of administrative staff in a motorcycle industry (OSSA). He married Irene Lopez Gomez (O Páramo), and fathered two sons. He died from a stroke in Lugo in 1990. Throughout his life he showed great concern for culture and Galicia (Spain), Galicia during his long emigration in Catalonia, where he became the chronicler of all acts related to Galicia celebrated in Catalonia, as once established in Lugo.
