OTI Festival 1975
The OTI Festival 1975 was the fourth edition of the annual OTI Festival. It took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, San Juan, Puerto Rico, following the country's victory at the OTI Festival 1974, 1974 contest with the song "Hoy canto por cantar" by Nydia Caro. Organised by the Organización de Telecomunicaciones de Iberoamérica, Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) and host broadcaster Telemundo, the contest was held at Telemundo television studios on Saturday 15 November 1975 and was hosted by Marisol Malaret and Eddie Miró. The number of participating countries repeated the record of the previous year of 19 countries. United States In The OTI Festival
Univision, formerly SIN (Spanish International Network), the biggest Spanish speaking TV channel of the US, was the OTI member station that organised the American participation in the OTI Festival. The network, whose main audience was the Spanish speaking community of the United States, debuted in the contest in 1974 in Acapulco with Rosita Perú and her song "Pero...mi tierra" (But... my homeland), which ended in the 17th place. Although the American broadcaster withdrawed from the event some years after its debut, Univision returned to the event and participated till the last edition in 2000 which was held again in Acapulco. Miss Universe 1970 was the 19th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Miami Beach Auditorium in Miami Beach, Florida, United States on 11 July 1970. At the end of the event, Gloria Diaz of the Philippines crowned Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico as Miss Universe 1970. It is the first victory of Puerto Rico in the competition. OTI Festival 1972
The OTI Festival 1972 was the very first edition of the annual OTI Festival and was held in Madrid, Spain. Organised by the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) and host broadcaster Televisión Española (TVE), the contest was held at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos auditorium on Saturday 25 November 1972 and was hosted by Rosa María Mateo and Raúl Matas. 14 countries were expected to debut in the festival, but Mexico was disqualified because their entry was considered non suitable for political reasons. Of the remaining 13 performers who took the stage, the winner was the Brazilian entrants Claudia Regina and Tobías with their song "Dialogo" (Dialogue), which was performed in Portuguese. Mirla Castellanos
Mirla Castellanos, is a noted Venezuelan singer with a career spanning over 40 years. Often referred to as "La Primerísima", she started her career as a singer with the band "Cuarteto Los Naipes" in the 1960s before taking up a solo career. She has sold more than 13 million records worldwide. Venevisión () is a Venezuelan free-to-air television channel and one of Venezuela's largest television networks, owned by the Cisneros Media division of Grupo Cisneros. History The company's roots date back to June 1, 1953, with the establishment of Televisora Mirandina Independiente S.A, (Televisa), which operated the channel 4 in Caracas and channel 5 in Maracaibo. Venezuela In The OTI Festival
Venezuela with their three OTI member stations: RCTV, Venevisión and Venezolana de Televisión debuted in the OTI Song Contest in 1972 in Madrid when the festival was held for the first time. History This country won the festival on two occasions, the first one in 1982 with the teenage boy band Unicornio performing the song "Puedes contar conmigo" (You can count on me). The second Venezuelan victory came in 1987 in Lisbon with Alfredo Alejandro, who performed the song "La felicidad esá en un rincón de tu corazón" (The happiness is inside a corner of your heart). Felipe Gil
Felipe Gil, also known by his nickname El Charro was a Mexican singer and songwriter of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. He was born in Misantla, Veracruz, in 1913, into a family of musicians and he studied the music of the area. He worked for a time with Álvaro Ancona and in 1936 they were joined by Chucho Navarro, Jesús "Chucho" Navarro, forming the group El Charro Gil y Sus Caporales. In 1940 Ancona was replaced by Felipe's brother Alfredo Gil. They disbanded in 1944, when Chucho Navarro and Alfredo Gil left the group to form the Los Panchos, Trío Los Panchos with Hernando Avilés. In 1939, Felipe Gil married the Mexican American vocalist Eva Garza after they met during Garza's concert tour in Juarez, Mexico. The pair later relocated to New York City, where they eventually raised three children before divorcing in 1953. Juan Carlos Calderón
Juan Carlos Calderón López de Arróyabe (7 July 1938 – 25 November 2012) was a Spanish singer-songwriter and musician. Born in Santander, he was the author of "Eres tú", which, performed by Mocedades, came second in the Eurovision Song Contest 1973. It was an important hit in several countries, including the United States. He wrote another three Eurovision entries: " Tú volverás" by Sergio y Estíbaliz in 1975, "La fiesta terminó" by Paloma San Basilio in 1985, and " Nacida para amar" by Nina in 1989; as well as an entry for the OTI Festival: "Amor de medianoche", which ended up runner-up in 1975 performed by Cecilia.
