Miss Universe 1970
Miss Universe 1970 was the 19th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Miami Beach Auditorium in Miami Beach, Florida, United States on 11 July 1970. At the end of the event, Gloria Diaz of the Philippines crowned Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico as Miss Universe 1970. It is the first victory of Puerto Rico in the competition. Contestants from 64 countries and territories participated in this year's pageant. The pageant was hosted by Bob Barker in his fourth consecutive year, while June Lockhart provided commentary and analysis throughout the event. Marisol Malaret Contreras (born October 13, 1949) is a Puerto Rican people, Puerto Rican television host, model and beauty queen. In 1970 she was the first Puerto Rican people, Puerto Rican woman and Caribbean woman to be crowned Miss Universe. Biography She started to work from an early age due to the death of her father and chronic illness of her mother. She was reportedly persuaded by Puerto Rican make-up artist Carmen Andino to compete in the Miss Puerto Rico pageant, then owned by Puerto Rican modeling guru and businesswoman Anna Santisteban. Britt-Inger Johansson (born 24 September 1950), known professionally as Kristina Wayborn, is a Swedish actress who worked mostly in the United Kingdom and in the United States.
