Nutri-Asia, Inc., formerly Southeast Asia Food, Inc., is a Philippine food company and the leading producer of condiment products in the Philippines. Among its best known brands are Datu Puti, Mang Tomas, UFC Catsup and Silver Swan. As of 2019, the company has of a total 116 distributors locally and international. NutriAsia was founded in 1990 as Enriton Natural Foods by Joselito Campos, the eldest son of industrialist José Yao Campos. Campos is also vice chairman of Del Monte Philippines and chairman of Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation. History Joselito Campos established Enriton Natural Foods, Inc. in 1990, with Nelicom as its lone brand. Later that year, Enriton acquires Jufran and Mafran, while also entering a joint venture with Acres & Acres. The joint venture would then be called Southeast Asia Food Inc. (SAFI). Datu Puti
Datu Puti is a condiment brand owned by NutriAsia, NutriAsia, Inc. (formerly known as Southeast Asia Food, Inc.). Datu Puti was first introduced as a vinegar product in 1975 by Hernan Reyes. Eventually, soy sauce and fish sauce under the Datu Puti brand were introduced in the 1990s. An oyster sauce product was also introduced. Branding Datu Puti is a combination of the surname of Reyes' mother (Dátu), and the Filipino language, Filipino translation of the color white ("puti"), which is a primary color of the traditional palm or ''sukang paombong''. The logo used for the brand features the image of a datu. The ''mukhasim'' (translated in English as "sour face", is a portmanteau of the Filipino words ''mukha''; , and ''asim''; ) marketing campaign was instrumental to the brand's recognition. Mang Tomas
Mang Tomas (Filipino for "Mr. Tomas") is a condiment brand established by NutriAsia. Its core product is lechon sauce. The brand was developed by Hernan Reyes in the late 1980s after he purchased the lechon sauce recipe of Aling Pitang lechon shop located in Quiapo, Manila. Reyes named his sauce "Mang Tomas Sarsa", after a popular lechon shop located in Santa Mesa, Manila. In 1991, the brand was acquired by Southeast Asia Food, Inc. (SAFI, now NutriAsia). UFC Catsup
UFC is a brand of banana ketchup owned by Nutri-Asia, Inc. The brand was first introduced in the Philippines in 1969 by Universal Foods Corporation. History Banana ketchup was deemed a cheaper alternative than tomato ketchup since bananas were abundant in the Philippines. Philippine food technologist Maria Y. Orosa (1893–1945) is credited with inventing the banana ketchup recipe. Coincidentally, Magdalo V. Francisco came up with his own method of making ketchup using bananas in 1938. In 1942, he began commercial production of banana ketchup under the brand name Mafran, a portmanteau derived from the first syllables of his first name and surname. He registered Mafran as a trademark with the Bureau of Patents in the Philippines. Years later, Francisco approached Tirso T. Reyes for funding to expand his business.
