Norwegian National Golf Championship
The Norwegian National Golf Championship is an annual golf tournament, played at various locations throughout Norway. It is organized by the Norwegian Golf Federation and was first played in 1956. The championship has been played as a 72-hole stroke-play event since 1968. Previously it was played as a match-play tournament.''Golf – Den eventyrlige sporten'' (Kleppen, 1998) Since 1970 (men) and 1976 (women) the winner receives the ''Kongepokal'', the King's Trophy, from Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports in recognition of their status as Norwegian champion. Currently, the tournament is open to both amateur and professional golfers, Norwegian citizens as well as foreign residents of Norway provided they have resided in Norway for a minimum period of one year prior to tournament start. Kongepokal
Kongepokalen (officially: Hans Majestet Kongens Pokal) is a Norwegian trophy awarded during Norwegian championships in a number of sports. In addition to Norwegian championships, it is also awarded in the World Cup-race in Nordic combined in Holmenkollen. The first known King's Cup awarded to a sport within the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (NIF) was set up by King Oscar II for Husebyrennet in 1879. The trophies are paid for jointly by the Royal Court and NIF. King's trophies are awarded to most sports organized in NIF. The trophy is set up for the woman and man who deliver the supposed best result during a senior Norwegian Championship. In some sports the King's Cup is awarded to the best result/athlete regardless of exercise (e.g. athletics and swimming), while in other sports the King's Cup is set up in a single exercise. Tonje Daffinrud
Tonje Frydenberg Daffinrud (born 19 September 1991) is a retired Norway, Norwegian professional golfer. She played on the Ladies European Tour between 2015 and 2021, and represented Norway at the Golf at the 2020 Summer Olympics, 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Amateur career As a junior, Daffinrud represented Europe at the 2009 Junior Solheim Cup. She also represented the Norwegian National Team at the European Ladies' Team Championship and Espirito Santo Trophy. She played collegiate golf with the Denver Pioneers, like her compatriot Espen Kofstad, and graduated from the University of Denver in 2014 with a degree in International Business and Economics. Vibeke Stensrud
Vibeke Stensrud (born 29 September 1973) is a Norwegian professional golfer. She won the 1993 European Ladies Amateur Championship and played on the Ladies European Tour between 1997 and 2005, with two runner-up finishes. Amateur career Stensrud started playing golf at 7 and joined the National Team before she was 15. She won the Norwegian National Golf Championship four times (1990, 1991, 1993 and 1995) and the European Ladies Amateur Championship in 1993. She represented Norway at the Espirito Santo Trophy three times, and the Continent of Europe at the Vagliano Trophy in 1993 and 1995, winning the latter. Henrik Bjørnstad
Henrik Bjørnstad (born 7 May 1979) is a Norwegian professional golfer. Bjørnstad was born in Oslo, Norway. He turned professional in 1997. Bjørnstad became the first Norwegian on the PGA Tour when he qualified with a tied 13th-place finish at the 2005 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. He previously played on the European Tour in 1999 and from 2001 to 2004. The first season on the PGA Tour resulted in 1 top 10 finish and 17 cuts made in 31 starts. Resulting in ranking at 152nd place on the PGA Tour Money list. In 2007 to 2009 Bjørnstad played on the U.S.-based Nationwide Tour. Jan-Are Larsen
Jan-Are Larsen (born 18 May 1976) is a Norwegian professional golfer. Having shown promise as an amateur golfer, Larsen earned a scholarship to play on the golf team at the University of Alabama. Upon graduating in 2002, he entered qualifying school for the European Tour as an amateur, and was successful in claiming the fifth card for the full tour. However, his debut professional season was a struggle, making only seven cuts and failing to retain his card. Since then, Larsen has progressed to the European Tour twice more via qualifying school, but has mostly played on the second-tier Challenge Tour, where he has recorded two runner-up finishes. Suzann Pettersen
Suzann Pettersen (born 7 April 1981) is a retired Norwegian professional golfer. She played mainly on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour, and was also a member of the Ladies European Tour. Her career best world ranking was second and she held that position several times, most recently from August 2011 until February 2012. She retired on 15 September 2019 after holing the winning putt for the European team at the 2019 Solheim Cup, notwithstanding that she had been away from golf for almost 20 months on maternity leave prior to the event. Eirik Tage Johansen (born 23 May 1982) is a Norwegian professional golfer. Johansen was born in the United States, and returned to the country of his birth as a successful amateur golfer, taking up a golf scholarship at the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the golf team. After graduating in 2006, he turned professional, and immediately won a place on the European Tour after advancing through qualifying school. After a disappointing first season, he dropped down to the second-tier Challenge Tour for 2008, but was once again successful at qualifying school at the end of that season. Knut Børsheim
Knut Børsheim (born 29 April 1987) is a Norwegian professional golfer. Amateur career Børsheim was one of the top amateurs in Norway, winning the golf medal at the national boys' championships, and winning a professional event in Scandinavia in 2006 while still an amateur. In the autumn of 2006, he opted to take a golf scholarship to Arizona State University for the next four years. He was awarded the Pac-10 Men's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2009-10. Espen Kofstad
Espen Kofstad (born 11 August 1987) is a Norwegian professional golfer who currently plays on the Challenge Tour. Kofstad was born in Oslo and was educated at Perbraten School. After finishing at the University of Denver, he entered the first stage of the European Tour qualifying school in 2010. At the final stage, he missed qualification for the European Tour by one stroke. He then joined the Challenge Tour in 2011 and finished in 35th on the Tour's Order of Merit in his rookie season. Marita Engzelius
Marita Engzelius (born 9 February 1988) is a retired Norwegian professional golfer, who played on the Symetra Tour and the Ladies European Tour. She won the Symetra Tour Championship and was runner-up at the New South Wales Women's Open. Viktor Hovland
Viktor Hovland (born 18 September 1997) is a Norwegian professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He won the 2018 U.S. Amateur and then became the first Norwegian to win on the PGA Tour (at the 2020 Puerto Rico Open) and on the European Tour (at the 2021 BMW International Open).
