Norway In The Eurovision Song Contest 1995
Norway's entry into the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 was "Nocturne" by Secret Garden. It went on to win that year's Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, marking Norway's second first-place finish in its history in the Contest. Before Eurovision Melodi Grand Prix 1995 Competing entries Semi-finals Nine semi-finals were held weekly between 14 January and 18 March 1995. Two songs competed in each semi-final with the winner from each semi-final qualifying for the final, along with one of the losing songs which were given wildcards. Secret Garden is an Irish-Norwegian band specialised in new instrumental music, led by the duo consisting of Irish violinist and singer Fionnuala Sherry and Norwegian composer, arranger and pianist Rolf Løvland. Norway has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 60 times since making its debut in and has only been absent twice since then. In 1970, the country boycotted the contest over disagreements about the voting structure, and in 2002, they were relegated. The Eurovision Song Contest 2005 was the 50th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Kyiv, Ukraine, following the country's victory at the with the song "Wild Dances" by Ruslana. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster National Television Company of Ukraine (NTU), the contest was held at the Palace of Sports, and consisted of a semi-final on 19 May, and a final on 21 May 2005. Petter Nome (born 18 July 1954) is a Norwegian television personality, journalist and organizational worker. He was born in Kristiansand, but grew up at Kampen and Ila. He did his secondary education at Oslo Cathedral School, worked odd jobs at land and sea and studied criminology at the University of Oslo. In 1978 he was hired as a journalist in ''Arbeiderbladet''. He later co-founded the local radio station Radio Oslo. He started working for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation in 1984. "Nocturne" is a song performed in Norwegian by Secret Garden and the winning entry for at the Eurovision Song Contest 1995. It was the second time Norway won the contest, after it had won in with Bobbysocks! song "La det swinge".
