The original Wallin & Nordstrom store operated exclusively as a shoe store, and a second Nordstrom's shoe store opened in 1923. The growing Nordstrom Best chain began selling clothing in 1963, and became the Nordstrom full-line retailer that presently exists by 1971. The company founded its off-price Nordstrom Rack division in 1973, and grew both full-line and off-price divisions throughout the United States in the following years before expanding into Canada in 2014. Trunk Club was a personalized mid- to high-end men's and women's clothing service based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. From its start in 2009, Trunk Club pioneered the at-home try-on model within the men's clothing industry. Each customer worked with a styling specialist who curated clothing for their box (called a "trunk"), which was shipped to their home or office; the customer could then either keep the clothes or send items back to Trunk Club, with billing occurring at the end of the process for any kept items. Elmer J. Nordstrom (November 23, 1904 – April 4, 1993) was an American businessman, co-president of Nordstrom, the department store chain founded by his father, John W. Nordstrom. Early life He was born in Seattle on November 23, 1904, the second son of John W. Nordstrom and Hilda Carlson. He graduated from Broadway High School in 1923, and from the University of Washington. Career In 1928, John W. Nordstrom retired and sold his shares of Wallin & Nordstrom to his two eldest sons, Everett and Elmer. In 1929, Carl Wallin also retired and sold his shares to them. 1930 marked the change of name to Nordstrom. In 1933, the third son Lloyd joined. They ran the business as co-presidents.
