Neneco Norton
Elio Ramon Gonzalez (December 8, 1923 – March 9, 2013), better known as Neneco Norton, was a Paraguayan musician, composer and orchestra director. Norton was born in 1923 in Asuncion, Paraguay on December 8, the day of the festival of the Virgin of Caacupé, an important date for Paraguayans. His parents were Apolonio Benitez and Hermelinda Gonzalez. Early career Neneco got his start in music when he played trumpet in the battalion band of the Rojas Silva battalion of Salesianito, a private school in Asuncion. His lessons in elementary music theory were taken with Ernesto Pérez Acosta. He learned theory and higher sight-reading with maestro Jose de Jesus Villalba, and then studied harmony with Professor Otakar Platill. While in the Rojas Silva battalion, he formed a musical group. Alberto Y Los Trios Paraguayos
Alberto y Los Trios Paraguayos was a trio from Paraguay formed by Luis Alberto del Paraná, with Digno García (1919–1984) and Agustín Barboza. They toured the UK in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and released a number of UK records in the 1960s, on Philips Records in Europe and Epic Records in the United States. Alcibiades González Delvalle
Alcibiades González Delvalle (born 20 July 1936) is a Paraguayan journalist, playwright, essayist, and novelist. He won the Paraguayan National Prize for Literature (Paraguay), National Prize for Literature in 2013 with his novel ''Un viento negro''. In 2016 he was named a member of the Academia Paraguaya de la Lengua Española, Paraguayan Academy of the Spanish Language. Career After writing for several newspapers starting in the 1950s, Delvalle joined the newly founded newspaper ''ABC Color'' in 1967. Between 1979 and 1983, he was repeatedly imprisoned for his work criticizing corruption in the regime of Alfredo Stroessner. In 1981, the Committee to Protect Journalists was formed in response to Delvalle's harassment. Delvalle received the Vladimir Herzog Award for his journalism. Luis Bordón
Luis Bordón (1926-2006) was a Paraguayan composer and interpreter of the Paraguayan harp. Early life and career Luis Bordón was born in the city of Guarambaré, Paraguay on August 19, 1926, and from a very early age he showed interest towards the art of musical performance, supported and promoted by his father. He began his studies with the Paraguayan harp and soon after developed a delicate and particular style which was "impossible to be imitated by anyone," according to comments from people who heard him play. Since 1950 and for several years he joined the orchestra of Julián Rejala, a Paraguayan folk music band, which conducted tours around the country and then to the neighbouring country of Brazil, highlighting his participation in the group as the leading musician. Florentín Giménez
Florentín Giménez (14 March 1925 – 11 March 2021) was a Paraguayan pianist and composer. Biography Giménez was born in Ybycuí, Paraguarí Department. In his teens, he learned to play the drums and became a member of the Orchestra of Popular Music, directed by Severo Rodas. In 1945, at the age of 20, he learned to play the piano and became a pianist in Ramón Reyes’ Orchestra, where he stayed until 1947, when the Paraguayan Civil War forced him to leave the country and settle in Argentina. After the war, he returned to Paraguay and formed his first orchestra, “Ritmos de América” (America’s Rhythms). In 1950, he formed the 14-member orchestra “Florentín Giménez y su típica Moderna”, which featured singers Oscar Escobar, Juan Carlos Miranda, Carlos Centurión, and Jorge Alonso. Herminio Giménez
Herminio Giménez (February 20, 1905 – July 6, 1991) was a Paraguayan composer. Life At the early age of 11 he was already part of the Paraguarí music band and two years later he was hired to be part of the Asunción marching band. While at the marching band he made his first successful song, a polca named ''Jasy Morotí'', in 1918. He was the first person to record Paraguayan music in an album, in 1927. The continued beauty of his works throughout the years positioned Giménez as one of the greatest Latin American composers. During the Chaco War he was assigned as the Director of the Military band and once the war was over he received several awards. Due to the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner's government, Giménez went into exile in Argentina. He spent most of his time in the city of Corrientes.
