National Security Party
The National Security Party ( hy, Ազգային անվտանգություն կուսակցություն, translit=Azgayin anvtangut’yun kusakts’ut’yun) is an Armenian political party. History The party is led by Garnik Isagulyan and does not have any representation in the National Assembly. The party currently acts as an extra-parliamentary force. Prior to the 2013 Yerevan City Council election, the party announced it would not participate or endorse any other party. Prior to the 2013 Armenian presidential election, the party said that it would support the presidential winner by taking an active part in building a safe, just and secure Armenia. Following the 2020–2021 Armenian protests, Garnik Isagulyan accused President Armen Sarksyan of supporting Edmon Marukyan leader of Bright Armenia to become the next Prime Minister. 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum
A referendum on Scottish independence from the United Kingdom was held in Scotland on 18 September 2014. The referendum question was, "Should Scotland be an independent country?", which voters answered with "Yes" or "No". The "No" side won with 2,001,926 (55.3%) voting against independence and 1,617,989 (44.7%) voting in favour. The turnout of 84.6% was the highest recorded for an election or referendum in the United Kingdom since the January 1910 general election, which was held before the introduction of universal suffrage. Nikol Pashinyan
Nikol Vovayi Pashinyan ( hy, Նիկոլ Վովայի Փաշինյան, ; born 1 June 1975) is an Armenian politician serving as the prime minister of Armenia since 8 May 2018. A journalist by profession, Pashinyan founded his own newspaper in 1998, which was shut down a year later for libel. He was sentenced for one year for defamation against then Minister of National Security Serzh Sargsyan. He edited the newspaper ''Haykakan Zhamanak'' ("Armenian Times") from 1999 to 2012. A supporter of Armenia's first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, he was highly critical of second president Robert Kocharyan, Defense Minister Serzh Sargsyan, and their allies, frequently referring to them as the "Karabakh Clan". Homeland Salvation Movement
The Homeland Salvation Movement ( hy, Հայրենիքի փրկության շարժում, translit=Hayrenik’i p’rkut’yan sharzhum) was an Armenian political alliance, consisting of several opposition political parties, led by Vazgen Manukyan. History The alliance was established on 3 December 2020 from the dissatisfaction of the Government of Armenia's handling of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. The alliance was critical of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire agreement which followed and actively called for the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan to resign. The alliance had proposed for itself to assume interim power, which would then be followed by elections. Sasna Tsrer Pan-Armenian Party ( hy, Սասնա Ծռեր համահայկական կուսակցություն, ''Sasna Tsřer hamahaykakan kusaktsutyun'') is an Armenian national conservative political party that was founded in September 2018 in the wake of the country's Velvet Revolution. Name The party's name is taken from an Armenian heroic epic poem ''Daredevils of Sassoun'' (Sasna Tsrer in Armenian). 2016 Yerevan Hostage Crisis
On 17 July 2016, a group of armed men calling themselves the ''Daredevils of Sasun'' (; the name is taken from an epic poem) stormed a police station in Yerevan, Armenia and took nine hostages. They demanded the release of opposition leader Jirair Sefilian and the resignation of President Serzh Sargsyan. The group began a standoff with government forces, with growing crowds of protesters joining the calls for the resignation of the president. Two policemen were killed during the standoff and dozens were wounded; one policeman died of his wounds after the end of the crisis. Several of the attackers were wounded as well. In a 2017 survey the 38% of respondents supported Sasna Tsrer's actions, while 16% condemned. Edmon Hrachiki Marukyan ( hy, Էդմոն Հրաչիկի Մարուքյան) is an Armenian lawyer and politician currently serving as ambassador-at-large of Armenia. He was a member of the National Assembly of Armenia from 2012 to 2021. He was elected to parliament for the first time as an independent in May 2012. He founded the Bright Armenia Party in 2015 and has served as its chairman since.
