The Nassau Stadium, also known as the National Beach Soccer Arena and Malcolm Park Beach Soccer Facility, is a beach soccer stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. It was the venue of the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, 2017 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship and beach soccer events at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games. Construction The site of the stadium, at Malcolm Park West, was the site of a former complex. The infrastructure of the former facility was demolished to make way for the Nassau Stadium. By November 11, 2016, site preparations for the construction of the stadium was already underway. The stadium's prefabricated structure was scheduled to arrive on November 17, 2016. After the structure's arrival, construction was scheduled to commenced. Beach soccer, also known as beach football, sand football or beasal, is a variant of association football played on a beach or some form of sand. Whilst football has been played informally on beaches, the introduction of ''beach soccer'' was an attempt to codify rules for the game. This was done in 1992 by the founders of Beach Soccer Worldwide, a company set up to develop the sport and responsible for the majority of its tournaments. The 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup was the ninth edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, the premier international beach soccer championship contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. Overall, this was the 19th edition of a world cup in beach soccer since the establishment of the ''Beach Soccer World Championships'' which ran from 1995 to 2004 but was not governed by FIFA. 2017 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship
The 2017 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship was a beach soccer tournament which took place in Nassau from 20 to 26 February 2017. This was the second time that the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship was held in the Bahamas. All matches were played at the Malcolm Beach Soccer Facility. The tournament aimed to crown the best beach soccer nation on the continent and also served as the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualifier for teams from North, Central America and Caribbean which are members of CONCACAF, where the top two teams qualified for the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup also to be held in the Bahamas. 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games
The 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, officially known as the VI Commonwealth Youth Games, and commonly known as Bahamas 2017, or Nassau 2017, was the sixth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games which started in 2000. The games were held from 19 to 23 July 2017 in Nassau, Bahamas. 64 nations participated at the games. The Bahamas 2017 was the largest international sporting event ever to be hosted in The Bahamas, and the largest-ever edition of the Youth Games, with up to 1300 athletes. During the opening ceremony the Prime Minister of the Bahamas Hubert Minnis declared the games officially open. It is located on the grounds of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee and was purpose-built to be the host venue of the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. Construction Paraguay's bid to host the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup was all but confirmed as successful on 1 October 2018.
