NSB Class 65
NSB Class 65 ( no, NSB type 65) was a three-car electric multiple unit operated by the Norwegian State Railways between 1936 and 1985. It was mainly used for local trains as well as branch lines. A total of 49 units were delivered between 1936 and 1949. The motor cars were built by Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri and Skabo while the centre and end cars were built by Strømmen. There are three series of Class 65. The A-series is rebuilt passenger carriages in wood totaling 10 units. The B-series consists of 13 steel units built in 1942 while a total of 22 C-series units were delivered 1949-51. Type 65 was quite successful and both Class 67 and Class 68 are based on it. Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri A/S also known as NEBB was a Norwegian manufacturing company, which built a lot of the rolling stock that is used by Norges Statsbaner. The plant was located at Skøyen. In 1988 it merged into Asea Brown Boveri (ABB). History Frognerkilens Fabrikk was founded in 1874 with focus on agricultural machinery. The Norwegian Railway Club ( no, Norsk Jernbaneklubb) is an association which is involved in the preservation of Norwegian museum railways. NMT has its operating base at Hønefoss Station in Ringerike, Norway. The society was founded on 22 May 1969, and is based at Bryn Station in Oslo, but with local groups all over the country. It publishes the magazine ''På Sporet'' four times a year, as well as publishing numerous books. The club also operates two heritage railways, the Old Voss Line in Bergen, and the Krøder Line. Most of the work is done by volunteers. The Norwegian Railway Club runs Norwegian Heritage Trains or NMT (''Norsk Museumstog''). All the members of NMT are volunteers and their classic train activities are under government supervision. Vygruppen, branded as Vy, is a government-owned railway company which operates most passenger train services and many bus services in Norway. The company is owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport. Its sub-brands include Vy Buss coach services, CargoNet freight trains and the Swedish train transport company Tågkompaniet. In 2009, NSB carried 52 million train passengers and 104 million bus passengers. On 24 April 2019, passenger train and bus services were rebranded as Vy. Colne Valley Railway
The Colne Valley Railway is a heritage railway based at Castle Hedingham Station, near Halstead in Essex, England. The railway consists of a long running line, with a fully reconstructed station, signal box and railway yard. History The railway occupies part of the former Colne Valley and Halstead Railway (CVHR), which opened in stages between 16 April 1860 and 10 May 1863. This part of the railway was a through line from to Wakes Colne. The line closed on 1 January 1962, when all passenger and freight traffic between and ended. On 19 April 1965, all transiting freight traffic ended. The line was dismantled and infrastructure demolished or recovered by contractors a year later, and the land on which the heritage railway station now sits resold to a local landowner. Minden Museum Railway
The Minden Museum Railway (German: ''Museumseisenbahn Minden'') or MEM was founded in 1977 as a society. Its aim was to preserve historic railway vehicles and operate them on the Minden District Railway (''Mindener Kreisbahn'' or ''MKB''). It was not long before the first museum train worked the line. The museum's vehicles were initially housed in the coach hall of the MKB's old locomotive depot (''Bahnbetriebswerk'') at Minden Stadt station. NSB Class 68 ( no, NSB type 68) is a three-car electric multiple unit operated by Norges Statsbaner between 1956 and 2001. It was mainly used for local trains as well as branch lines. The units were built in two series, the A-series being delivered in 21 units between 1956-58 and the B-series in nine units between 1960–61. The motor cars were built by Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri and Skabo while the centre and end cars were built either by Skabo or by Strømmen. Skabo Jernbanevognfabrikk
Skabo Jernbanevognfabrikk was a mechanical workshop focusing on design and construction of railcars. It was established by Hans Skabo in Drammen, Norway, in 1864; it became the first rail car factory in the country when it took delivery of the cars for Kongsvingerbanen. Due to the size of the venture, it moved to Tyskerstranden at Skøyen in Kristiania (now Oslo) in 1873. Because the delivery of rail cars is uneven, Skabo participated in other manufacturing, including coachworks for trucks, buses and taxicabs. The first Norwegian-produced trolleybus was delivered from Skabo in 1911. Also technical devices and stalls and in 1926 firewood powered snow melters; the latter contraption rather unsuccessful. An electric multiple unit or EMU is a multiple-unit train consisting of self-propelled carriages using electricity as the motive power. An EMU requires no separate locomotive, as electric traction motors are incorporated within one or a number of the carriages.
