Skabo Jernbanevognfabrikk
Skabo Jernbanevognfabrikk was a mechanical workshop focusing on design and construction of railcars. It was established by Hans Skabo in Drammen, Norway, in 1864; it became the first rail car factory in the country when it took delivery of the cars for Kongsvingerbanen. Due to the size of the venture, it moved to Tyskerstranden at Skøyen in Kristiania (now Oslo) in 1873. Because the delivery of rail cars is uneven, Skabo participated in other manufacturing, including coachworks for trucks, buses and taxicabs. The first Norwegian-produced trolleybus was delivered from Skabo in 1911. Also technical devices and stalls and in 1926 firewood powered snow melters; the latter contraption rather unsuccessful. In 1948 the company was bought by Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri (NEBB), who sold it to Strømmens Værksted in 1959; moving all activity to Strømmen and closing the Skøyen plant. NSB El 7
NSB El 7 was a series electric locomotives delivered between 1911 and 1918 to Norsk Transport that operated the Rjukan Line and the Tinnoset Line, where they were designated RjB.1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8. The locomotives were built by AEG (motor) and Skabo (chassis). The first three locomotives were delivered to the Rjukan Line along with two smaller units, RjB 4 and 5 (which were given the designation El 6 by NSB). El 7 is exactly two El 6; it has two transformers, four motors instead of two, Bo'Bo' instead of Bo axle arrangement, two pantographs, the same speed, and could haul twice the load. Urskog–Høland Line
The Urskog–Høland Line ( no, Urskog–Hølandsbanen), also known as Tertitten, is a narrow gauge railway between Sørumsand and Skulerud in Norway. History The original line was long and was built in three stages: Urskogbanen opened in 1896, running from Bingsfossen to Bjørkelangen; Hølandsbanen from Bjørkelangen to Skulerud opened in 1898 and finally the line between Bingsfos and Sørumsand in 1903. Today part of the line is preserved as a museum at Sørumsand in Lillestrøm kommune. The railway company was headquartered at Bjørkelangen. Vygruppen, branded as Vy, is a government-owned railway company which operates most passenger train services and many bus services in Norway. NSB Class 88
NSB Class 88 was a class of six three-car diesel-hydraulic multiple units built by Strømmens Værksted for the Norwegian State Railways. Derived from the German DRG Class SVT 877, the trains were the diesel counterpart of Class 66. The trains were built as express trains on the Bergen Line and the Dovre Line, serving the routes from Oslo to Bergen and Trondheim. The first four units were delivered in 1945 and 1946, but mechanical failures caused them to highly unreliable until 1950. Two more units were delivered in 1958. Retirement started in 1963 and from 1965 the trains were moved to the Røros Line. They left regular service from 1970 and were chopped three years later. NSB Class 68 ( no, NSB type 68) is a three-car electric multiple unit operated by Norges Statsbaner between 1956 and 2001. It was mainly used for local trains as well as branch lines. The units were built in two series, the A-series being delivered in 21 units between 1956-58 and the B-series in nine units between 1960–61. NSB Class 66
NSB Class 66 ( no, NSB type 66) was a three-car electric train used by the Norwegian State Railways for express trains on the Østfold Line to Halden and Gothenburg, and the Sørlandet Line to Kristiansand and Stavanger. The four multiple units were built by Skabo Jernbanevognfabrikk, with motors from Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri, and delivered in 1945–46. NSB Class 65
NSB Class 65 ( no, NSB type 65) was a three-car electric multiple unit operated by the Norwegian State Railways between 1936 and 1985. It was mainly used for local trains as well as branch lines. A total of 49 units were delivered between 1936 and 1949. The motor cars were built by Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri and Skabo while the centre and end cars were built by Strømmen. NSB Class 62
NSB Class 62 is the first electric railcar operated by Norges Statsbaner, between 1936 and 1970. Four units were built by Skabo and Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri in 1931–35, with unit has been preserved by the Norwegian Railway Museum. The units served, along with trailer cars on the first mainline electrified railway, the Drammen Line. Two were delivered in 1931; two more in 1933.
