NBA Canada Series
The NBA Canada Series are a series of basketball games featuring National Basketball Association teams that are played in Canada. History The first official series started in 2012 although previous preseason games have been played in Canada outside of Toronto before. Specifically in October 1990 the Indiana Pacers played three games against the Bullets and Rockets. These 3 games would be played in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Halifax Nova Scotia, then Kitchener Ontario. There was no series in 2017 due to the early start of the season. Planning for the series was overseen by Dan MacKenzie, vice-president and managing director NBA Canada. The NBA Global Games are a series of games featuring NBA teams that are played outside the United States and Canada. Its purpose is to bring teams from the National Basketball Association (NBA) to play games against either another NBA team or a foreign club. The games themselves are played under NBA rules, which differ slightly from the FIBA rules under which the foreign teams normally play. Court markings and dimensions also differ slightly. History The first official overseas game featuring an NBA team was an exhibition matchup between the Washington Bullets and Maccabi Tel Aviv on 7 September 1978. Rogers Place is a multi-use indoor arena in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Construction started in March 2014, and the building officially opened on September 8, 2016. The arena has a seating capacity of 18,500 as a hockey venue and 20,734 as a concert venue. It replaced Northlands Coliseum (opened 1974) as the home of the National Hockey League, NHL's Edmonton Oilers and the Western Hockey League, WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings.
