Nova Supersports Cup
The Nova SuperSport Cup was an association football friendly tournament competition hosted by Greek premium sports network Nova Sports between 1999 and 2001, held in Athens. The first tournament occurred from 31 July to 1 August 1999, contested by English Premier League club Leicester City, Hertha Berlin from the Bundesliga, Iraklis from the Alpha Ethniki and AEK Athens from the Alpha Ethniki, who eventually won the tournament. The second tournament occurred between 4 and 5 August 2000, contested by Greek Alpha Ethniki club AEK Athens, Werder Bremen from the Bundesliga, Rapid Wien from the Austrian Bundesliga and Brescia from the Serie A, who eventually won the tournament. Nikos Goumas Stadium ( el, Στάδιο Νίκος Γκούμας) was a multi-purpose stadium in Nea Filadelfeia, a northwestern suburb of Athens, Greece. It was used mostly for football matches and was the home stadium of AEK Athens F.C. It is now replaced by Agia Sophia Stadium built at the same site. Name The stadium was named "AEK Stadium" ( el, Γήπεδο ΑΕΚ) but was also known as "Nea Filadelfeia Stadium" ( el, Στάδιο Νέας Φιλαδέλφειας). In 1991 it was officially named "Nikos Goumas Stadium" after former club president Nikos Goumas, who contributed to its building and later upgrading. Construction With actions of the first president of the club, Konstantinos Spanoudis, in 1926, a piece of land in Nea Filadelfeia, that was originally set aside for refugee housing, was donated as a training ground for the refugees.
