Norwegian Skating Association
The Norwegian Skating Association ( no, Norges Skøyteforbund, NSF) is the main skating authoritative body in Norway. It oversees speed skating, figure skating, short track speed skating on ice, and more recently inline and roller skating. The Norwegian Skating Association was founded on 27 February 1893 and currently has about 7,000 members. It is a member of the Norwegian Olympic Committee and Confederation of Sports, the International Skating Union (ISU), and Federation International de Roller Skating (FIRS). The NSA publishes a magazine named ''Skøytesport''. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. During the Viking Age the area was part of Viken. Oslo was founded as a city at the end of the Viking Age in 1040 under the name Ánslo, and established as a ''kaupstad'' or trading place in 1048 by Harald Hardrada. The city was elevated to a bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haakon V of Norway around 1300. Personal unions with Denmark from 1397 to 1523 and again from 1536 to 1814 reduced its influence. After being destroyed by a fire in 1624, during the reign of King Christian IV, a new city was built closer to Akershus Fortress and named Christiania in honour of the king. Aksel Gresvig
Aksel Gresvig OBE (16 August 1876 – 16 December 1958) was a Norwegian track cyclist, sports administrator and businessman. He started a bicycle shop in Oslo in 1901, which later developed into the largest chain of sports shops in Scandinavia. Early and personal life Aksel Johan Andersen was born in Græsvig in Onsø, a peninsula and then a municipality in Østfold, as the son of village shopkeeper Ole Andersen (1849–1883) and Randine Andersen (1849–1900). His father died when he was six years old, and the family moved to Fredrikstad, an important port for timber export. In 1887 the family moved to Kristiania. He adopted the name Gresvig when he was a candidate for confirmation. He married Ragnhild Helseth in 1914. Sports career Active career as track cyclist Gresvig bought his first bicycle in 1894. German Occupation Of Norway
The occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany during the Second World War began on 9 April 1940 after Operation Weserübung. Conventional armed resistance to the German invasion ended on 10 June 1940, and Nazi Germany controlled Norway until the capitulation of German forces in Europe on 8 May 1945. Throughout this period, a pro-German government named Den nasjonale regjering (English: the National Government) ruled Norway, while the Norwegian king Haakon VII and the prewar government escaped to London, where they formed a government in exile. Kristian Strøm
Kristian Strøm (24 December 1892 – 10 November 1980) was a Norwegian speedskater. He set a world record in 5000 m in 1917, when he improved Oscar Mathisen's previous record in Trondheim. This record lasted four years, until it was beaten by Harald Strøm in 1921. Strøm became national all-round champion in 1916, 1917, 1919 and 1920, and took five King's Cups. Yngvar Bryn
Yngvar Bryn (17 December 1881 – 30 April 1947) was a Norwegian track and field athlete and pairs figure skater who competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, and in the 1920 Summer Olympics held in Antwerp, Belgium. At just aged 18 years old, Bryn won to silver medals at the 1899 Norwegian Athletic Championships in the 100 metres and 500 metre races, in 1901 and 1902 he became the Norwegian Champion in the 500 metres, he also became the 100 metres Norwegian record holder in 1902 when he recorded at time of 11.1 seconds. In 1900 he participated in the 200 metres competition and in the 400 metres competition. In both events he was eliminated in the first round. As a track and field athlete Bryn was representing IK Tjalve.
