Norwegian County Road 408
Norwegian county road 408 (Fylkesvei 408 or Fv408) is a long Norwegian county road which runs between the villages of Blakstad in Froland municipality and Rykene in Arendal municipality. The road roughly follows the river Nidelva the whole way. Prior to 2010, this was a Norwegian national road, but in the transportation reforms that year, the road was transferred to county control. The road begins in the village of Blakstad in Froland municipality. In Froland, the road is called ''Messelveien''. The road begins at a junction with Norwegian County Road 42 and it runs south along the Arendalsbanen railway line. After about , the road enters Arendal municipality where it is also known as the ''Jernbaneveien'' ( en, the railroad road). Blakstad, Aust-Agder
Blakstad or Blakstad-Osedalen is a village which is also the administrative centre of the municipality of Froland in Agder county, Norway. It is located along the river Nidelva, about northwest of the town of Arendal (where many residents of Blakstad work and shop). The small village of Froland lies about to the north, on the west side of the river, and that is where Froland Church is located. Originally, Blakstad was the village on the eastern shore of the river and the village of Osedalen was located on the western side of the river. Rykene
Rykene or Rygene is a village located along the river Nidelva in Agder county, Norway. The village is primarily located in Arendal municipality, but a small portion of the village lies across the river in the neighboring municipality of Grimstad. Rykene is located about north of the town of Grimstad and about the same distance south of the city of Arendal. Historically, the village grew up due to its close proximity to forests as the timber was floated down river to the sawmills in Rykene. The village of Lindtveit lies about to the northwest, the village of Løddesøl lies about to the north, the village of Gjennestad lies about to the northeast. Nidelva (Aust-Agder)
Nidelva is the main river in the Arendal drainage basin in Agder county, Norway. The long river begins at the confluence of two rivers: Nisserelva and Fyreselv. The confluence is located by the village of Haugsjåsund in Nissedal municipality in southern Vestfold og Telemark county. The river flows south into the Skagerrak at the city of Arendal. The watershed covers and has an average waterflow of at Rykene near the mouth. The highest waterflow ever recorded on the river was in the autumn of 1987. Arendalsbanen
The Arendal Line ( no, Arendalsbanen) is a long railway line between Arendal and Simonstad in Norway. At Nelaug, north of Arendal, the line intersects with the Sørland Line. The southern section is electrified and provides a feeder passenger service. The line originally ran north from Arendal to Treungen and the lake Nisser, but the upper-most part has been removed. The line is owned by the Norwegian Railway Directorate and operated by Go-Ahead Norge using Class 69 trains. Originally named the Arendal–Åmli Line, the first part of the line, from Arendal to Froland, opened on 23 November 1908. The line was extended to Åmli on 17 December 1910 and to Treungen on 14 December 1913, and was named the Arendal–Treungen Line.
