Froland Church
Froland Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Froland Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Froland. It is one of the two churches for the Froland parish which is part of the Arendal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1718 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 295 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the parish date back to the year 1399 and the earliest existing records of the church are from 1425 as the "Frodelands Sogn i Nidardal", however the church was likely founded during the late 13th or early 14th century (before the Black Death in Norway). By the beginning of the 1700s, the old church was quite dilapidated, so in 1704 there was a royal resolution that stipulated that the old church be torn down and replaced. Frolands Verk
Frolands verk is a small village area in Froland municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located along the Norwegian County Road 42, almost west of the municipal centre of Blakstad/ Osedalen and about southeast of the village of Mjåvatn. The lake Trevann lies just south of the village. History Frolands verk was once a large ironworks in the 1700s which produced cannon balls among other things. The ironworks company included large land holdings of farmland and forests in the surrounding area. The items produced here were shipped down the river Nidelva to the lake Rore in Landvik and then transported to the sea at Grimstad. Osedalen
Blakstad or Blakstad-Osedalen is a village which is also the administrative centre of the municipality of Froland in Agder county, Norway. It is located along the river Nidelva, about northwest of the town of Arendal (where many residents of Blakstad work and shop). The small village of Froland lies about to the north, on the west side of the river, and that is where Froland Church is located. Originally, Blakstad was the village on the eastern shore of the river and the village of Osedalen was located on the western side of the river. Mykland (village)
Mykland is a rural village in northwestern Froland municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located along the Norwegian County Road 42 about northwest of the village of Blakstad and about southwest of the village of Åmli. The village is located in a hilly, forested area that is the site of many small rivers and lakes. The village of Mykland was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Mykland which existed from 1876 until 1967 when the municipality was merged into Froland.
