Northsound Radio
Northsound Radio was the name for the original Independent Local Radio station broadcast from Aberdeen and serving the North East of Scotland. In 1995, the station split to become two separate stations. History Until summer 1981, the only local radio output available to listeners in the North East of Scotland was a regional opt-out from the BBC at Beechgrove, which broadcast specialist music programmes for a couple of hours a week along with some opt-out regional news coverage. When a commercial radio franchise for Aberdeen, Peterhead and the surrounding areas was advertised by the then-regulator, the Independent Broadcasting Authority, a group of local businessmen applied under the consortium of ''North of Scotland Radio Ltd'' and won the franchise. After a change of name, ''Northsound Radio'' commenced broadcasting at 6am on 27 July 1981 from its original studios in an old schoolhouse on Kings Gate, near Anderson Drive in the city. Independent Local Radio
Independent Local Radio is the collective name given to commercial radio stations in the United Kingdom. As a result of the buyouts and mergers permitted by the Broadcasting Act 1990, and deregulation resulting from the Communications Act 2003, most commercial stations are now neither independent (although they remain independent from the BBC) nor local. The same name is used for Independent Local Radio in Ireland. History Development of ILR Until the early 1970s, the BBC had a legal monopoly on radio broadcasting in the UK. Despite competition from the commercial Radio Luxembourg and, for a period in the mid-1960s, the off-shore "pirate" broadcasters, it had remained the policy of both major political parties that radio was to remain under the BBC. Shayne Thomas Ward (born 16 October 1984) is an English actor and singer. Alan Fisher (broadcast Journalist)
Alan Fisher is a Scottish broadcast journalist and war correspondent. For many years he worked at GMTV, but now works for international news channel Al Jazeera English, where he is a senior correspondent at the broadcast centre in Washington, D.C. Early life Fisher was born in Motherwell in Scotland and attended Dalziel High School. He studied journalism at what was then Napier College in Edinburgh. He later graduated with an M.A. from the University of Leicester, where he wrote his thesis on the work of war correspondents. Career Fisher began his career writing for his local newspaper ''The Motherwell Times'' and broadcasting on Hospital Radio Law while still at High school. Grampian Television
Grampian Television was the original name of the Channel 3 service for the north of Scotland founded in 1961 and now named STV. The northern region's coverage area includes the Northern Isles, Western Isles, Highlands (except Fort William and Lochaber) Grampian, Tayside (except the Kinross area), and parts of north Fife. Grampian went on the air on 30 September 1961. The company was bought out in 1997 by STV Group (the parent company of STV, the Channel 3 broadcaster in Central Scotland). The name ''Grampian Television'' was retired in 2006 and the channel is now known as ''STV'' on-air. STV runs one service which covers both central and northern Scotland but with separate news bulletins. Robin Galloway (born 18 December 1961) is a Scottish radio and TV broadcaster currently on air at Pure Radio Scotland as breakfast host. Robin hosts the Robin Galloway Breakfast Show on Pure Radio weekday mornings from 06:00 and is also Group Head Of Radio Presentation for DCT Media which is owned by DC Thomson. Nicholas Andrew Argyll Campbell, OBE (born Nicholas Lackey, 10 April 1961) is a Scottish broadcaster and journalist. He has worked in television and radio since 1981 and as a network presenter with BBC Radio since 1987. Early life Campbell was born in Portobello, Edinburgh in April 1961 and was taken for adoption at just a few days old. Amy Elizabeth Macdonald (born 25 August 1987) is a Scottish singer-songwriter. Travis (band)
Travis are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1990, composed of Fran Healy (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Dougie Payne (bass guitar, backing vocals), Andy Dunlop (lead guitar, banjo, backing vocals) and Neil Primrose (drums, percussion). The band's name comes from the character Travis Henderson (played by Harry Dean Stanton) from the film ''Paris, Texas'' (1984). The MacDonald Brothers, now performing as The Macs, are a Scottish pop folk duo from Ayr, South Ayrshire, Scotland, consisting of brothers Brian and Craig MacDonald. McFly
McFly are an English pop rock band formed in London in 2003. The band took their name from the '' Back to the Future'' character Marty McFly. The band consists of Tom Fletcher (lead vocals, guitar, and piano), Danny Jones (lead vocals, harmonica, and guitar), Dougie Poynter (bass guitar, vocals) and Harry Judd (drums).
