Northern Suburbs District Cricket Club is a cricket club playing in the XXXX Gold premiership, the leading club cricket competition in Queensland, Australia. Northern Suburbs District Cricket Club has produced some of the finest players to represent Queensland and Australia in one day and test cricket competition. Many fine players have represented the Northern Suburbs District Cricket Club at club and representative level, such as Ian Healy and Joe Burns. Club history In 1925-26 the Metropolitan Electorate Cricket Competition, played under the auspices of the Queensland Cricket Association, was contested in three grades by teams representing South Brisbane, Valleys, Western Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs and Toombul Electorate Clubs as well as the University of Queensland Cricket Club. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. The Gold Coast District Cricket Club is a cricket club on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia who play in the Queensland Premier Cricket competition. The club was founded in 1990. Ben Robert Dunk (born 11 March 1987) is an Australian professional cricketer who is currently playing and is the power hitting coach for the Lahore Qalandars. Ernest Toovey
Ernest Albert Toovey MBE, OAM (16 May 1922 – 18 July 2012) was an Australian cricketer and baseball player. In cricket, Toovey was a left-handed batsman who bowled slow left-arm orthodox. He was born at Warwick, Queensland. Toovey served in the Royal Australian Navy during World War II, enlisting for service when he was seventeen. He served during the war aboard , where he was present during the Battle of the Java Sea and was also aboard the ship during its sinking at the Battle of Sunda Strait in February 1942. Half of the ship's crew were lost, while the remainder who survived, including Ordinary seaman Toovey, were captured by the Japanese and spent the remainder of the war in Prisoner of War camps. While imprisoned, he reportedly resisted recommendations to have his leg amputated because of an ulcer, telling his captors "You can't take my leg off because I've got to play cricket for Queensland."
