Northeastern Connecticut Transit District
The Northeastern Connecticut Transit District (NECTD) is an agency providing multiple forms of public transportation in northeastern Connecticut. Six fixed routes (with deviation on request) provide week-round service to the towns of Brooklyn, Killingly, Plainfield, Putnam, and Thompson. Using fixed route service connections to WRTD can be made in Killingly and to SEAT in Plainfield respectively. With advance reservation NECTD also offers dial-a-ride service to the general public and door-to-door to select elderly and disabled persons. Dial-a-ride and door-to-door service is available to all towns served by NECTD's fixed routes as well as to Canterbury, Eastford, Hampton, Pomfret, Union, and Woodstock. Following a pilot program which began in 1977, NECTD was founded in October 1979, with its first service beginning in August 1980. Connecticut () is the southernmost state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. It is bordered by Rhode Island to the east, Massachusetts to the north, New York to the west, and Long Island Sound to the south. Its capital is Hartford and its most populous city is Bridgeport. East Brooklyn is a census-designated place located within the town of Brooklyn in Windham County, Connecticut. It is the portion of the Danielson urban cluster within the town of Brooklyn. The population was 2,205 at the 2020 census. US 6 runs through the town and severs the town. The portion of the CDP near the Quinebaug River is known as the Quinebaug Mill-Quebec Square Historic District. Day Kimball Hospital is an acute care facility located in the West End of Putnam, Connecticut. Day Kimball Hospital was established in 1894. The hospital campus is located on Pomfret St in Putnam, and is directly adjacent to the main office of the Day Kimball Healthcare building. Background The hospital opened in 1894 after Mrs. M. Day Kimball donated $5,000 for the construction of the infirmary building in memory of her recently deceased son, Day Kimball, with the condition that the hospital be named after him. Connecticut Route 12 is a state highway that runs between Groton and the state line in Thompson. History Route 12 was preceded by New England Interstate Route 12. The southern terminus of NE-12 was originally at New London, Connecticut. It travelled along present-day Route 32 (along the west bank of the Thames River) from New London to Norwich, Connecticut. In 1932, when Connecticut decommissioned its New England Routes, Route 12 swapped places with Route 32 south of Norwich.
