Norman Maurice Armitage
Norman Maurice Armitage (born 13 June 1945) is a Colombian businessman, politician, and philanthropist who served as the mayor of Cali, the third-largest city in Colombia, and the economic hub of Southwestern Colombia from 2016 to 2019. Education and early career Armitage studied Law at University, and then went to work in steel mining. He bought his first company SIDOC (Siderúrgica de Occidente) which he still owns. Armitage also owns the Ingenio de Ocidente which is an Agribusiness company whose main product is refined sugar and owns 3,000 hectares of land which is used for production. Armitage is also a shareholder of Cementos San Marcos, and is a part of the board of directors of the Cali Chamber of Commerce and Fenalco Valle. Maria Mireya Arboleda Cadavid (1928 – February 21, 2021) was a Colombian classical pianist. Early career and education Maria Mireya Arboleda Cadavid was born in Palmira, Valle del Cauca, Colombia in 1928 to Fernando Arboleda López, the mayor of Palmira and Rosa Cadavid Medina along with five other sisters, Esmeralda, Pubenza, Fabiola, Violeta, and Soffy. Maria Esmeralda Arboleda Cadavid (January 7, 1921 – 16 April 1997) was a Colombian politician, suffragist and the first woman elected to the Senate of Colombia, serving from 1958 to 1961. A leader of the women's suffrage movement in Colombia, she and fellow suffragist Josefina Valencia Muñoz, were the first women appointed to a national legislative position in Colombia as part of the National Constituent Assembly in 1954, where they presented what would eventually be the '' Legislative Act No. 3'', which modified Article 171 of the Colombian Constitution of 1886 granting universal suffrage to women.
