No One Is Lost
''No One Is Lost'' is the seventh studio album by Canadian indie pop band Stars, released on October 14, 2014, by Soft Revolution / ATO Records. Background Co-produced by old friend Liam O'Neil, the album was recorded in a new studio that had just been converted from the old rehearsal space of Handsome Furs. Vocalist Torquil Campbell often slept on the studio's couch over the course of the sessions, and explained that the more electronic direction of the album was a result of the beats audible from the gay discothèque located on the floor below, recalling that "The music would end at 3:30. I was trying to get to sleep and Charli XCX would be, like, banging downstairs. And, I loved it." The album's recurring themes of mortality and loss were inspired the cancer diagnosis of longtime manager Eoin O'Leary during the writing process. James Shaw (musician)
James Shaw (sometimes credited as Jimmy Shaw) is a founder and lead guitarist of Canadian indie rock band Metric. He is also a member of the band Broken Social Scene and an award-winning producer. Life and career Shaw was born in London, England and raised in Bellevue, Ontario, Canada. He spent three years earning a classical music education at the Juilliard Music School in New York. Upon returning to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he met Emily Haines, and the two began dating and making music immediately. In 1997, Haines was featured in Shaw's debut album "Life on the Clock", and the two formed the band Metric in 1998. Shaw's early efforts to make sure that former high school friends Haines and Kevin Drew remained friends helped the evolution of the band Broken Social Scene. Murray Lightburn
Murray A. Lightburn is a Canadian musician, best known as the lead vocalist and principal songwriter for The Dears. Lightburn has been called "the black Morrissey" due to his vocal similarity (and shared penchant for somewhat dark lyrics) to the former The Smiths lead singer. Evan Cranley
Evan Cranley is a Canadian musician based in Montreal, Quebec. He records with the bands Stars and Broken Social Scene, although he considered joining the band Metric before finally joining Stars. Musical career Early on, Cranley was in the band The Universe of Forums. In the 1990s, he was the trombonist for the Toronto-based band Gypsy Soul (later Gypsy Sol). He was also a part of Big Rude Jake's back-up band in the late 1990s (he later quit, stating there are only so many shows one can do dancing around in a flesh-coloured zoot suit with a trombone). Cranley was one of the original line-up of Broken Social Scene after the band was expanded from the core members Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. Amy Millan (born December 3, 1973) is a Canadian indie rock singer and guitarist. She records and performs with the bands Stars and Broken Social Scene as well as having a successful solo career. Her second solo album, '' Masters of the Burial'', was released by Arts & Crafts Productions in September 2009. Biography Early life Amy Millan grew up in the Cabbagetown neighbourhood of Toronto. Metacritic is a website that review aggregator, aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted arithmetic mean, weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. The site provides an excerpt from each review and hyperlinks to its source. A color of green, yellow or red summarizes the critics' recommendations.
