Nirupam Sen (politician)
Nirupam Sen (8 October 1946 — 24 December 2018) was a Bengali Marxist political leader and former Commerce and Industries minister of the Government of West Bengal during 2001 to 2011. He was a senior leader of Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was a member of the politburo of the party between 2008 and 2015. He was elected to the Member of Legislative Assembly thrice in 1987, 2001 and 2006. Early life Sen was born in 1946 in Bardhaman, State of West Bengal. He became a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) during his student years. Although he started his career as a teacher, he became whole timer of the party in 1968. Political career In 1966, Sen was appointed the district secretary of the Students Federation of India, students wing of the party. He played a key role in expanding the Party in Burdwan district, and served as the secretary of the Bardhaman district Committee from 1989 to 1995. The Government of West Bengal also known as the West Bengal Government, is the subnational government of the Indian state of West Bengal , created by the National Constitution as the state's legislative, executive and judicial authority. The Left Front ( bn, বামফ্রন্ট; ) is an alliance of left-wing political parties in the Indian state of West Bengal. It was formed in January 1977, the founding parties being the Communist Party of India (Marxist), All India Forward Bloc, the Revolutionary Socialist Party, the Marxist Forward Bloc, the Revolutionary Communist Party of India and the Biplabi Bangla Congress. Bidhannagar
Bidhannagar is a planned urban agglomeration and city and a municipal corporation of the North 24 Parganas in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is in Greater Kolkata region and also a part of the area covered by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). It consists of sub areas like Rajarhat and Salt lake, which were planned and developed between 1958 and 1965 to accommodate the burgeoning population of Kolkata. Sainbari Incident
The Sainbari Murder occurred in 1970 in the house of Sain family in Bardhaman in West Bengal in India, where several people were killed. Incident The newspaper incident report puts the date of the incident occurred on 17 March 1970. The Sain brothers were members of a family with strong allegiance towards the Indian National Congress. Naba Kumar Sain — the eldest son of the family —was allegedly blinded and his eyes gouged out while his younger brothers, Malay and Pranab were allegedly hacked to death in front of the watching family members, by the perpetrators. Naba Kumar was killed a year later. The entire incident was done by CPI(M) members, because of the family's support towards Indian National Congress and the victims' refusal to switch allegiance to the CPI(M). Singur Tata Nano Controversy
The Tata Nano Singur controversy was a controversy generated by land acquisition of a proposed Tata Motors automobile factory at Singur in Hooghly district, West Bengal, India. The factory would have been used to build the compact car Tata Nano. Tata Motors started constructing a factory to manufacture a car, Tata Nano which was estimated to cost $2,500 . The small cars were scheduled to roll out of the factory by 2008. Hooghly District
Hooghly district () is one of the districts of the Indian state of West Bengal. It can alternatively be spelt ''Hoogli'' or ''Hugli''. The district is named after the Hooghly River. The headquarters of the district are at Hooghly-Chinsura (''Chuchura''). There are four subdivisions: Chinsurah Sadar, Srirampore, Chandannagore, and Arambagh.
