Nigel Adams (athlete)
Nigel Adams (born 30 November 1966) is a British former politician who served as Minister of State without Portfolio at the Cabinet Office from 2021 to 2022. A member of the Conservative Party, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Selby and Ainsty from 2010 until his resignation in 2023. Early life Adams was born in Goole in 1966 and raised in Selby. He is the son of a school caretaker and school cleaner. Adams attended Camblesforth Primary School and Selby Grammar School. In 1994, with a £20 a week Enterprise Allowance Scheme Government grant, he co-founded Advanced Digital Telecom, which was sold for £3.1 million to JWE Telecom in 1999. Miriam Jane Alice Davies (born 2 June 1975), known as Mims Davies, is a British Conservative Party politician serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mid Sussex since 2019. She has been serving as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Social Mobility, Youth and Progression since October 2022. She served as a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Safeguarding from September to October 2022. Davies was first elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Eastleigh in May 2015. She was the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Sport, Civil Society and Loneliness in Theresa May's government from 2018 to 2019. 2010 United Kingdom General Election
The 2010 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 6 May 2010, with 45,597,461 registered voters entitled to vote to elect members to the House of Commons. The election took place in 650 constituencies across the United Kingdom under the first-past-the-post system. The election resulted in a large swing to the Conservative Party similar to that seen in 1979, the last time a Conservative opposition had ousted a Labour government. The Labour Party lost the 66-seat majority it had previously enjoyed, but no party achieved the 326 seats needed for a majority. The Conservatives, led by David Cameron, won the most votes and seats, but still fell 20 seats short. Selby High School is a co-educational secondary school in North Yorkshire, England. Its main catchment area is the town of Selby and villages from the Selby District, including Thorpe Willoughby, Hambleton, Monk Fryston, Cawood and Wistow. History Selby High School links back to Selby Grammar School, founded in 1908 as an all-girls school as Selby High School. The West Riding of Yorkshire is one of three historic subdivisions of Yorkshire, England. Goole
Goole is a port town and civil parish on the River Ouse in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The town's historic county is the West Riding of Yorkshire. According to the 2011 UK census, Goole parish had a population of 19,518, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 17,600. It is north-east of Doncaster, south of York and west of Hull. The town has the United Kingdom's furthest inland port, being about from the North Sea. Keir Alexander Mather (; born 1998) is a British Labour politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Selby and Ainsty from the 2023 by-election until 30 May 2024. At the time of his election, aged 25, Mather became the Baby of the House. Early life and education Keir Mather was born in 1998 in Kingston upon Hull. He was named after Keir Hardie, the founder of the Labour Party. Mather grew up in Brough, East Riding of Yorkshire. His mother, Jill Tambaros (née Golding), is a supply teacher, and his father, Mick Mather, is a support worker. His father is also a Labour Party activist. Mather was a member of the Youth Parliament, and set up a Labour group for young people in Hull. Selby And Ainsty (UK Parliament Constituency)
Selby and Ainsty is a constituency in North Yorkshire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since its 2010 creation by Nigel Adams, a member of the Conservative Party. History For 2010 the Boundary Commission recommended the creation of this seat following a review of parliamentary representation in York and North Yorkshire. The constituency was formed from the former Selby constituency, except for some villages near York which were moved to the new York Outer constituency, and rural areas south and east of Harrogate which were previously in the Vale of York constituency.
