Nieuw-Vennep is a railway station in Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands located on the Weesp–Leiden railway. It the second station in Nieuw Vennep; there existed an earlier one on the Hoofddorp–Leiden railway (commonly referred to as the ''Haarlemmermeerspoorlijn''; from Aalsmeer to Haarlem, via Hoofddorp and Leiden). This station opened in 1912 and closed in 1936. The current station is serviced by regional trains and opened on 31 May 1981. Weesp–Leiden Railway
The Weesp–Leiden railway (Dutch: ''Schiphollijn'') is a railway line in the Netherlands which runs between the cities of Weesp and Leiden; the line also passes through and serves Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. History Opening The first section of the ''Schiphollijn'' was opened on 20 December 1978 between Schiphol and Amsterdam Zuid. At the time, this section of railway was not connected to the rest of the Dutch railway network. This section of the ''Schiphollijn'' features a -long tunnel, in which Schiphol railway station is located. When it was constructed, Schiphol was the only railway station in the Netherlands to be in-tunnel. Nieuw-Vennep is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It's located near the capital city Amsterdam as well as Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. It has a population of 31,415 (2021), and is a part of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, which ranks in top 15% of Dutch municipalities by income level. Geography and demographics Nieuw-Vennep has 31,415 inhabitants (2021). The town has two districts, the Old Town and the newly built Getsewoud, with each being home to around half the town's population. In 2001, before the development of Getsewoud, Nieuw-Vennep had 17,886 inhabitants. The development of Getsewoud doubled the number of homes in the town and the population followed soon after.
