Eugene Nida
Eugene A. Nida (November 11, 1914 – August 25, 2011) was an American linguist who developed the dynamic equivalence, dynamic-equivalence Bible translation, Bible-translation theory and one of the founders of the modern discipline of translation studies. Life Eugene Albert Nida was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 11, 1914. He became a Christian at a young age, when he responded to the altar call at his church "to accept Christ as my Saviour." He graduated ''summa cum laude'' from the University of California in 1936. After graduating he attended Camp Wycliffe, where Bible translation theory was taught. He ministered for a short time among the Tarahumara people, Tarahumara Indians in Chihuahua (state), Chihuahua, Mexico, until health problems due to an inadequate diet and the high altitude forced him to leave. Nida (german: Nidden, Kursenieki: ''Nīde'') is a resort town in Lithuania, the administrative centre of Neringa municipality. Muqtida Hasan Nida Fazli, known as Nida Fazli (12 October 1938 – 8 February 2016), was a prominent Indian Hindi and Urdu poet, lyricist and dialogue writer. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 by the government of India for his contribution to literature. Early life and background Born in New Delhi, into a Kashmiri Muslim family, Nida Fazli grew up in Gwalior, where he attended school and subsequently studied English literature. His father was also a very well known Urdu poet. Two of his other brothers mainly; Tasleem Fazli & Saba Fazli too were prominent names of Indo-Pak. Their contribution to literature through films/poetry and songs are still cherished today by their admirers both from India and Pakistan. Nida was an ancient Roman town in the area today occupied by the northwestern suburbs of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, specifically Frankfurt-Heddernheim, on the edge of the Wetterau region. At the time of the Roman empire, it was the capital of the ''Civitas Taunensium''. The name of the settlement is known thanks to written sources from Roman times and probably derives from the name of the adjacent river Nidda. History The area of the ''Civitas Taunensium'' was initially occupied with the Germanic campaigns of Emperor Augustus during the Roman expansion to create the Roman province of Germania. Here, the Rhine river area in the shape of the "Wetterau range" extended extensively into German territory. Nida Allam (born December 15, 1993) is an American politician, political activist, and data analyst. She currently serves on the Durham County Board of Commissioners, to which she was elected in 2020, making her the first Muslim woman to serve in public office in North Carolina. Allam is one of five women to serve on the Durham County Board of Commissioners; this is the first time the board has consisted entirely of women in its 139-year history. Since 2018, Allam has served as the Chair of the Durham Mayor’s Council for Women. Nida Civic Movement ( az, Nida Vətəndaş Hərəkatı), commonly referred to as N!DA or simply Nida, is an Azerbaijani civic movement founded in early 2011 to achieve democratic and social changes in Azerbaijan. Currently it has over 350 members comprising mainly young individuals as well as well-known politicians and activists. The movement claims to have no affiliation with any of the political parties in the country. ''Nida'' means "exclamation" in Azerbaijani. ''Al-Nida ('The Call') was a newspaper published from Kuwait City during the Iraqi occupation 1990–1991. In August 1990 the Iraqi authorities shut down the ''al-Qabas'' newspaper and founded ''al-Nida'' using the requisitioned facilities of ''al-Qabas''. ''Al-Nida was the sole newspaper published in Kuwait during this period. It was distributed for free in Kuwait. It was also sold in Jordan. The newspaper carried speeches by Saddam Hussein and information of laws and decrees issues by the Iraqi authorities. The newspaper was shut down on 1 January 1991, without any stated explanation. ''Al Nida'' (Arabic: النداء; ''The Appeal'') was a daily newspaper which was published in Beirut, Lebanon, in the period 1930–1940. The paper also had a French language edition. It is known for being one of the first Arabic newspapers which featured translations of Adolf Hitler's book ''Mein Kampf''. History and profile ''Al Nida'' was established by Kazem Al Solh in Beirut in 1930. He also owned and edited the paper which ceased publication in 1940.
