Nida Civic Movement
Nida Civic Movement ( az, Nida Vətəndaş Hərəkatı), commonly referred to as N!DA or simply Nida, is an Azerbaijani civic movement founded in early 2011 to achieve democratic and social changes in Azerbaijan. Currently it has over 350 members comprising mainly young individuals as well as well-known politicians and activists. The movement claims to have no affiliation with any of the political parties in the country. ''Nida'' means "exclamation" in Azerbaijani. Principles The stated purpose of the movement is to defend the constitutional and human rights of the society, and the preserval of democratic and republican values. N!DA also aims to attract citizens, especially, youth and students into the socio-political processes of the country in order to democratize Azerbaijan and increase their influence in the processes. Baku
Baku (, ; az, Bakı ) is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. Amnesty International (also referred to as Amnesty or AI) is an international non-governmental organization focused on human rights, with its headquarters in the United Kingdom. The organization says it has more than ten million members and supporters around the world. The stated mission of the organization is to campaign for "a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments." Uzeyir Mammadli ( az, Üzeyir Məmmədli; born August 26, 1987, in Barda) is a youth activist and co-founder of N!DA Civic Movement. He is known for his arrest on March 30, 2013, a few days after the protests held in Baku against the non-combat deaths in the military. Mammadli is accused in preparing the riots during the protests. International human rights organization, Amnesty International recognized him as a prisoner of conscience. He was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment on May 6, 2014, but later was pardoned and released on December 30, 2014, after 1 year 9 months imprisonment. Zaur Gurbanli ( az, Zaur Qurbanlı, born on January 12, 1987, Baku) - is a youth activist, co-founder and ex-board member of N!DA Civic Movement from February 2011 to December 12, 2012, projects coordinator and ex-Senior official for the arrested members` rights in 2013. He is known for his arrest on April 1, 2013 a few days after the protests held in Baku against the non-combat deaths in the military. Rashadat Akhundov ( az, Rəşadət Axundov, born on August 7, 1984, Beylagan) is a youth activist and co-founder of N!DA Civic Movement. Rashad Hasanov ( az, Rəşad Həsənov, born on May 2, 1985, Lankaran) is a youth activist and ex-board member of N!DA Civic Movement from September 2012 to September 2013. He was arrested on March 14, 2013, a few days after the protests held in Baku against the non-combat deaths in the military. Hasanov was accused in preparing the riots during the protests.
