New Zealand at the 1990 Commonwealth Games was represented by a team of 224 competitors and 61 officials. Selection of the team for the Games in Auckland, New Zealand, was the responsibility of the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association. New Zealand's flagbearer at the opening ceremony was swimmer Anthony Mosse, and at the closing ceremony was cyclist Gary Anderson. The New Zealand team finished fourth on the medal table, winning a total of 58 medals, 17 of which were gold. New Zealand has competed in every games, starting with the British Empire Games in 1930 at Hamilton, Ontario. The New Zealand Olympic Committee (before 1994, The ''New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association'') is both the National Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Association in New Zealand responsible for selecting athletes to represent New Zealand in the Summer and Winter Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. While a founder member of the International Olympic Committee, New Zealand did not send its own team to compete until the Games of the VI Olympiad (Antwerp 1920), though at the 1908 and 1912 Summer Olympics New Zealand and Australia competed as "Australasia". The 1990 Commonwealth Games ( mi, 1990 Taumāhekeheke Commonwealth) were held in Auckland, New Zealand from 24 January – 3 February 1990. It was the 14th Commonwealth Games, and part of New Zealand's 1990 sesquicentennial celebrations. Participants competed in ten sports: athletics, aquatics, badminton, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, judo, lawn bowls, shooting and weightlifting. Netball and the Triathlon were demonstration events. The main venue was the Mount Smart Stadium. Host selection The Games were awarded to Auckland on 27 July 1984 at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics in the US. Perth, Australia, had withdrawn from the bid contest leaving New Delhi, India, as the sole opponent to Auckland's bid. Greg Yelavich
Gregory Thomas Yelavich (born 8 March 1957) is a Shooting sports, competitive pistol shooter from Auckland, New Zealand. As well as winning numerous national pistol titles, Yelavich has the distinction of having won more Commonwealth Games medals than any other New Zealander (12). He was the New Zealand flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He has represented New Zealand at two Olympic Games — 1988 Summer Olympics, Seoul 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics, Barcelona 1992. In 1990, Yelavich was awarded the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal. In the 1995 New Year Honours (New Zealand), 1995 New Year Honours, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire, for services to sport. Rhoda Constance Ryan (née Hawke; 4 January 1925 – 22 April 2002) was an international lawn bowls competitor for New Zealand. Bowls career Ryan won the singles bronze medal at the 1985 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Melbourne, Australia. In 1990 she represented New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games and won a silver medal in the fours with Adrienne Lambert, Lyn McLean and Marlene Castle. Lynette Zoe McLean ( – 6 May 2017) was an international lawn bowler from New Zealand. Biography She was educated at Freyberg High School and started bowling in 1975 at Northern Bowling Club. She won two medals at the Asia Pacific Bowls Championships including a gold medal in the 1989 fours, in Suva, Fiji. She won a silver medal in the women's fours with Adrienne Lambert, Marlene Castle and Rhoda Ryan at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland. Adrienne Lambert
Adrienne Marie Lambert (née Parker; born ) is a former international lawn bowler from New Zealand. Bowls career Lambert won a gold and silver medals at the 1989 Asia Pacific Bowls Championships, in Suva, Fiji. She went on to win three more medals at further Championships. The following year she won a silver medal in the women's fours with Lyn McLean, Marlene Castle and Rhoda Ryan at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland. Four years later she won a bronze medal in the women's fours with Ann Muir, Colleen Ferrick and Marlene Castle at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia. In between the Games, Lambert won double silver in the triples and fours at the 1992 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Ayr.
