New South Wales 1100 Class Railcar
The 1100 class railcar or Budd railcar were a type of diesel railcar built by Commonwealth Engineering for the Department of Railways New South Wales in 1961. They primarily operated on the '' South Coast Daylight Express'' until withdrawn in 1993. History During the 1950s, the Department of Railways New South Wales ordered rolling stock for the '' Brisbane Limited'', including some stainless steel double deck sleeping carriages. Due to financial constraints only ten conventional sleeping carriages were built. To use the excess materials that had been stockpiled, Commonwealth Engineering constructed five cars, four self-propelled Budd Rail Diesel Cars, and a matching non-powered trailer car. While following Budd RDC layouts, these cars were smaller than standard, being only 77 feet in length and narrower in width to fit the NSW loading gauge. Commonwealth Engineering (often shortened to Com-Eng, later Comeng [ ]) was an Australian engineering company that designed and built railway locomotives, rolling stock and trams. History Smith and Waddington, the predecessor to Commonwealth Engineering, was founded in 1921, in the Sydney suburb of Camperdown, New South Wales, Camperdown, as a body builder for custom motor cars. It went bankrupt in the Great Depression in Australia, Depression, and was reformed as Waddingtons Body Works and the main factory was moved to Granville, New South Wales, Granville, after a fire in the main workshop. Albury railway station is a heritage-listed railway station at Railway Place, Albury, New South Wales, Australia, adjacent to the border with Victoria, in Australia. New South Wales Endeavour Railcar
The Endeavour Railcars are a class of diesel multiple units operated by NSW TrainLink on passenger rail services in New South Wales, Australia on the Hunter, Blue Mountains (to Bathurst), Southern Highlands and South Coast lines (between Kiama and Bomaderry). They are mechanically identical to the Xplorers. All 30 carriages were built by ABB Transportation in Dandenong, Victoria. Fourteen two-carriage sets were ordered in April 1992 to replace Class 620/720 railcars, DEB set railcars and locomotive hauled stock, with the first entering service in March 1994. In November 1994, one further two-carriage set was ordered. All are scheduled to be replaced in the early 2020s by the NSW TrainLink Regional Train Project. Moss Vale railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the Main South line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Moss Vale. It opened on 2 December 1867 as Sutton Forest, being renamed in 1877. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History Moss Vale station opened as Suttons Forest on 2 December 1867. It was the terminus of the line until the extension to Marulan on 6 August 1868. The station was renamed to Moss Vale in 1877. Main Southern Railway Line
The Main Southern Railway is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. It runs from Sydney to Albury, near the Victorian border. The line passes through the Southern Highlands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Riverina regions. Description of route The Main Southern Railway commences as an electrified pair of tracks in the Sydney metropolitan area. Since 1924, the line branches from the Main Suburban railway line at Lidcombe and runs via Regents Park to Cabramatta, where it rejoins the original route from Granville. The line then heads towards Campbelltown and Macarthur, the current limit of electrification and suburban passenger services. Erskineville railway station is located on the Illawarra line, serving the Sydney suburb of Erskineville. It is served by Sydney Trains T3 Bankstown line services. History The original Erskineville station, situated on the north side of Erskineville Road, opened on 15 October 1884 as part of the construction of the Illawarra line to Hurstville.
