New Day New World
''New Day New World'' is the ninth studio album by the Canadian new wave band Spoons. It was released on 22 March 2019 on CD, vinyl, digital download, and through streaming. It is the band's first studio album in over eight years. Background After the release of Spoons' previous album from 2011, ''Static in Transmission'', Gordon Deppe noted that he felt it was to be the last Spoons album, but as life went on he realized he had more to say. The songs "Beautiful Trap" and "For the First and Last Time" were originally performed live as far back as 2015, but on 16 October 2017, the former was released as a free downloadable single on the Spoons' website. The album was recorded at bassist Sandy Horne and producer Jeff Carter's studio in Guelph: Sky Studios. This was the same studio used for ''Static in Transmission.'' Spoons is a Canadian new wave band, formed in Burlington, Ontario in 1979. They recorded several Canadian chart hits between 1982 and 1989, and in 1983, they were nominated for Most Promising Group of the Year at the Juno Awards. Their most popular songs include "Romantic Traffic", "Nova Heart", "Old Emotions", and "Tell No Lies". ''Static in Transmission'' is the eighth studio album by the Canadian new wave band Spoons. Released in early 2011 on CD and iTunes, it is their first album of new material in 23 years since 1988's ''Vertigo Tango''. Background and writing After playing the new song "Imperfekt" live at a 2010 concert in Toronto, the band was approached by Universal music to record an album of all new material. Following this, the band released a promo CD single for "Imperfekt", b/w "Breaking In" in July 2010. Two additional new songs from the album were previewed online in Dec. 2010. In a December 2010 interview, Gordon Deppe explained: "It wasn't until we recorded Imperfekt that I thought we had something. At a Spoons rehearsal, everyone went, 'wow, what's that.'
