''Neverwinter'' is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Cryptic Studios for Microsoft Windows in 2013, Xbox One in 2015, and PlayStation 4 in 2016. Based on the fictional ''Forgotten Realms'' city of Neverwinter from ''Dungeons & Dragons'', ''Neverwinter'' is a standalone game and not part of the previous Neverwinter Nights (series), ''Neverwinter Nights'' series. Gameplay Players can choose one of eight ''Dungeons & Dragons'' character class (Dungeons & Dragons), character classes and form groups of up to five player characters (PCs). Cryptic Studios is an American video game developer specializing in massively multiplayer online role-playing games. It is headquartered in Los Gatos, California and was a wholly owned Perfect World subsidiary, and is now owned by Embracer Group through its subsidiary Gearbox Entertainment. ''Neverwinter'' is a fantasy novel by American author R. A. Salvatore. Released in October 2011, it is set in the Forgotten Realms campaign world. It is the second book in the Neverwinter Saga. It follows the continued adventures of drow elf renegade Drizzt Do'Urden. This story is set days after the events of ''Gauntlgrym'' and brings back both familiar and unfamiliar characters. Plot summary The story begins shortly after the events occurring in Gauntlgrym. Drizzt and Dahlia are in the wilderness of the north planning to return to Neverwinter. Dahlia explains to Drizzt that although the Dread Ring has been broken, Sylora Salm will make it her priority to reestablish it by any means necessary. Deciding that their best course of action is to head to Luskan to regroup and learn what they may, the two head towards the town aided by Drizzt's magical unicorn Andahar. Jack Emmert
Jack Emmert is an American game designer who has worked primarily on role-playing games and computer games. Career Jack Emmert had been playing '' Champions'' since it came out in 1981. Emmert spent his teenage years reading comic books and playing '' AD&D''. During his student years, Emmert wrote several pen and paper RPG supplements to make ends meet. After a lengthy stint in academia, Emmert co-founded Cryptic Studios. He designed the MMORPGs ''City of Heroes'' and ''City of Villains''. Emmert was the chief creative officer and directed the design of all games from Cryptic Studios, and was involved in the development of ''Marvel Universe Online''.
