Network Processing Forum
The Network Processing Forum (NPF) is an industry forum that was organized to facilitate and accelerate the development of next-generation networking and telecommunications products based on Network processor, network processing technologies. The NPF was merged into the Optical Internetworking Forum in June 2006. The NPF produces Hardware, Software, and Benchmark Interoperability Agreements. These agreements enable equipment manufacturers to lower their time to market and development cost by enabling a robust, multi-vendor ecosystem. It also lowers the total cost of ownership of systems based on their interoperability agreements by enabling investments in test and verification infrastructure as well as enabling competition. A network processor is an integrated circuit which has a feature set specifically targeted at the networking application domain. Network processors are typically software programmable devices and would have generic characteristics similar to general purpose central processing units that are commonly used in many different types of equipment and products. Optical Internetworking Forum
The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) is a prominent non-profit consortium that was founded in 1998. It promotes the development and deployment of interoperable computer networking products and services through implementation agreements (IAs) for optical networking products and component technologies including SerDes devices. OIF also creates benchmarks, performs worldwide interoperability testing, builds market awareness and promotes education for optical technologies. The Network Processing Forum merged into OIF in June 2006. The OIF has around a hundred member companies and has four face-to-face meetings per year. Chuck Sannipoli
Charles Joseph Sannipoli (1945-2015) was an executive in the computer networking industry, having served for more than 3 decades in many roles. Life He held a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and was a Senior Member of the IEEE. He was a resident of North Carolina. Sannipoli completed a long career at IBM during which he held key senior management positions in the networking business area, spanning hardware and software research and development, as well as product and program management. He was involved in IBM's Rainier network processor development effort. He holds several patents and has patents pending in IBM's portfolio based on network processing technology. Sannipoli served as the vice president and general manager of the Network Processor Group at IP Infusion Inc. Solidum Systems
Solidum Systems was a fabless semiconductor company founded by Feliks Welfeld and Misha Nossik in Ottawa, Ontario Canada in 1997. The company developed a series of rule-based network classification semiconductor devices. Some of their devices could be found in systems which supported 10 Gbit/s interfaces. Solidum was acquired in October 2002 by Integrated Device Technology. IDT closed the Ottawa offices supporting the product in March 2009.
