Netherlands In The Eurovision Song Contest 1996
The Netherlands was represented by duo Maxine and Franklin Brown, with the song "De eerste keer", at the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Oslo on 18 May. Before Eurovision Nationaal Songfestival 1996 Five acts participated in the Dutch preselection, which consisted of five qualifying rounds, followed by the final on 3 March 1996. Heats Five qualifying heats took place on consecutive evenings between 26 February and 1 March 1996. Each involved one of the selected acts performing three songs, with the televoting winner from each act going forward to the final. Final The final was held on 3 March at the Cinevideo Studio in Almere, hosted by Ivo Niehe. The winning song was chosen by voting from 13 regional juries, and "De eerste keer" emerged as the winner by an 11-point margin. The show was also broadcast in Belgium on BRTN. Maxine (singer)
Gonny Buurmeester (born 14 October 1970), known professionally as Maxine, is a Dutch singer. She is known for representing the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996, together with Franklin Brown. Career Born in 1970, Maxine grew up in Rotterdam and later moved to Breda. At the age of fifteen, she started taking singing lessons in Antwerp, Belgium. Her first single was a cover of the song "A Love So Beautiful" by Roy Orbison. In 1996, she entered the ''Nationaal Songfestival'' – the Dutch national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest – together with Franklin Brown. Their entry "De eerste keer" went on to win the competition, giving them the right to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 held in Oslo, Norway. Dick Bakker
Dick Bakker (born 23 May 1947 in Blaricum) is a Dutch composer, conductor and music producer. He succeeded Rogier van Otterloo as conductor of the Metropole Orkest, serving between 1991 and 2005. Bakker composed the winning Eurovision Song Contest entry of 1975 for Teach-In. He has remained an associate with the Eurovision Song Contest and the Nationaal Songfestival, composing the Dutch entry for the 1982 Event sung by Bill van Dijk. He conducted three Dutch Eurovision entries, in 1996, 1997 and 1998. Bakker is a strong supporter of an orchestra's return to the contest. Bakker has worked as a studio engineer and arranger for Shocking Blue (on ''Venus''), Rudi Carrell and Paloma Blanca. Franklin Kroonenberg (born 11 March 1961), known professionally as Franklin Brown, is a Dutch singer and voice actor. He is known for representing the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996, together with Maxine, with the song "De eerste keer". Pieter Goemans
Pieter Goemans (1925-2000) was a Dutch composer, probably best known for having written the classic song "Aan de Amsterdamse grachten". Biography Goemans was born on 6 June 1925 in Amsterdam. The son of a diplomat, his father forced him to write under a pseudonym to avoid any association between the family and the popular entertainment industry. Under the name Peter Shott he wrote, in 1949, the song "Aan de Amsterdamse grachten"; Goemans was inspired to write the song in 1949 while walking across the bridge where the Prinsengracht and the Leidsegracht intersect. It wasn't supplied with sheet music and recorded until 1956, when an arrangement was written by pianist Dick Schallies (then a member of the Metropole Orkest) since (Schallies explained) Goemans couldn't write music. John Ewbank (composer)
John Ewbank (born 6 December 1968) is a British-born Dutch composer, lyricist and record producer. He was born in Eastleigh, Hampshire; he and his family moved with the latter to the Netherlands when he was one year old. He wrote/produced a record number of twenty #1 Dutch Top 40 hit singles, of which fourteen were for Marco Borsato, for whom he has been producing and writing since 1994. They sold over four million albums together in the Benelux. Other artists Ewbank worked with include Ferry Corsten, Trijntje Oosterhuis, VanVelzen, Esmée Denters, Gordon, Paul de Leeuw, Rob de Nijs, Nikki Kerkhof, Hero, Maud Mulder, and Tim Immers.
