Neofidia
''Neofidia'' (formerly known as ''Fidia'') is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is distributed in North and Central America. There are 24 species recognised in ''Neofidia''. Etymology The original name for the genus, ''Fidia'', is taken from mythology. The replacement name, ''Neofidia'', refers to the fact it is a new name for ''Fidia'' Baly, 1863, as well as the distribution of the genus in the Nearctic and Neotropical realms. Taxonomic history The name "''Fidia''" was first used in 1836 by the French entomologist Pierre François Marie Auguste Dejean in his ''Catalogue des Coléoptères'', listing two species from the New World, ''F. lurida'' and ''F. murina''. Because no description or indication was given for either species, they are considered '' nomina nuda''. Likewise, ''Fidia'' Dejean is also considered a ''nomen nudum''. In 1861, Victor Motschulsky described a new species of beetle from Japan with the name ''Fidia atra''. Motschulsky's spe ...

''Neofidia lurida'', the grape rootworm, is a species of leaf beetle. It is bordered to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, to the southeast by South America and the Car ..., south to Mexico, and have been recently reported as far north as Quebec. Adults are typically 4.9 to 7.0 mm in length. They are colored mahogany brown, and are covered with white to straw-yellow hairs. The grape rootworm larvae feed on the roots of grape vines, Virginia creeper, and other members of the plant family Vitaceae. They can be a significant economic pest to grape producers. Grape rootworms generally produce one generation per year. Adults emerge in late spring and early summer, feeding on leaves for 3–4 weeks, and producing eggs which hatch in 1–2 weeks. The larvae overwinter in the gr ...

Lypesthes
''Fidia'' (formerly known as ''Lypesthes'') is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is distributed in East Asia, Southeast Asia and Africa. Taxonomic history In 1861, Victor Motschulsky described a new species of beetle from Japan with the name ''Fidia atra''. In 1863, Joseph Sugar Baly designated ''Fidia atra'' as the type species of a newly established genus with the name ''Lypesthes''. In a 2008 review of the New World genus ''Fidia'' Baly, 1863, it was determined that Motschulsky's species description made the name ''Fidia'' available first, meaning that ''Lypesthes'' Baly, 1863 is a junior synonym of ''Fidia'' Motschulsky, 1861 and that ''Fidia'' Baly, 1863 is a junior homonym. An application to suppress ''Fidia'' Motschulsky, 1861 (with the year incorrectly given as "1860") and conserve usage of ''Fidia'' Baly, 1863 and ''Lypesthes'' Baly, 1863 was submitted to the ICZN in 2006. This proposal was rejected by the commission in 2009, upholding the ...

George Henry Horn
George Henry Horn (April 7, 1840 – November 24, 1897) was a U.S. entomologist who specialized in the study of beetles. Born in Philadelphia, Horn attended the University of Pennsylvania, from which he graduated with a degree in medicine in 1861. From 1862 to 1866, he served in the American Civil War as surgeon to the infantry of the California Volunteers, during which time he collected insects extensively in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. He then returned to Philadelphia, where he established a medical practice, specializing in obstetrics, and was elected president of the Entomological Society of Philadelphia, the predecessor of the American Entomological Society. He would remain president of the latter society until his death. He was elected as a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1869. Working with the collection he had made during his service in the West, he published "more than 150 important papers, in addition to very many minor notes; in these papers ab ...

Honduras
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. The republic of Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. Its capital and largest city is Tegucigalpa. Honduras was home to several important Mesoamerican cultures, most notably the Maya, before the Spanish Colonization in the sixteenth century. The Spanish introduced Catholicism and the now predominant Spanish language, along with numerous customs that have blended with the indigenous culture. Honduras became independent in 1821 and has since been a republic, although it has consistently endured much social strife and political instability, and remains one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. In 1960, the northern part of what was the Mosquito Coast was transferred from Nicara ...

Tamaulipas
Tamaulipas (), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Tamaulipas ( es, Estado Libre y Soberano de Tamaulipas), is a state in the northeast region of Mexico; one of the 31 states which, along with Mexico City, comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided into 43 municipalities. Tamaulipas is bordered by the states of Nuevo León to the west, San Luis Potosí to the southwest, and Veracruz to the southeast. To the north, it has a stretch of the U.S.–Mexico border with the state of Texas, and to the east it is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico. In addition to the capital city, Ciudad Victoria, the state's largest cities include Reynosa, Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo, Tampico, and Mante. Etymology The name Tamaulipas is derived from ''Tamaholipa'', a Huastec term in which the ''tam-'' prefix signifies "place (where)". No scholarly agreement exists on the meaning of ''holipa'', but "high hills" is a common interpretation. Another explanation of the state name is tha ...

Biologia Centrali-Americana
The ''Biologia Centrali-Americana'' is an encyclopedia of the natural history of Mexico and Central America, privately issued in 215 parts from 1879 to 1915 by the editors Frederick DuCane Godman and Osbert Salvin, of the British Museum (Natural History) in London. It was begun by Alfred Maudslay publishing his first long-form description of the Archaeology at Chichen Itza (London: R.H. Porter and Dulau, 1889-1902). This work is still fundamental for the study of Neotropical plants and animals, because it contains almost all that was known of the biodiversity of Mexico and Central America at the time of its publication. Leading scientists of the day were the authors of the volumes. The whole series has 63 volumes with 1677 lithograph plates (more than 900 of which are in color) depicting 18,587 subjects. In total, 50,263 species are treated, of which 19,263 are described as new. Archaeology was added to the already monumental project because of new discoveries in the re ...
