Neoarctidae
''Neoarctus primigenius'' is a species of tardigrade. It is the only species in the genus ''Neoarctus'', which is the only genus in the family Neoarctidae. The genus and species were first described and named by Grimaldi de Zio, D'Addabbo Gallo and Morone De Lucia in 1992. In biology, a species is the basic unit of classification and a taxonomic rank of an organism, as well as a unit of biodiversity. Tardigrades (), known colloquially as water bears or moss piglets, are a phylum of eight-legged segmented micro-animals. They were first described by the German zoologist Johann August Ephraim Goeze in 1773, who called them Kleiner Wasserbär ("little water bear").
